Help! My cat keeps waking me up at night.

I don't think I've had a good night's sleep in a year. My oldest male cat runs around during the night, knocking stuff off tables, and waking me up. Or, he'll come right up to me and jump on the bed and talk really loud until I wake up. Why do they do that kind of thing. How do you deal with it?

Is he fixed?? That usually calms them down a lot. Exercising him before bed might help too -- make him chase a string on a stick until he poops out. Giving him fresh catnip and THEN playing with him can help. They seem to go through phases on catnip where they want to play, then eat, then sleep. He sounds like he wants more attention from you, maybe he's bored, or jealous of the other cats. Good Luck!!

Also, make sure there is plenty of food for him...lots of energy expended needs food too. How old is that bad bad kitty cat?

Cats are nocternal and are most active at night. I have two and they play like absolute lunatics everynight. If it is disturbing you then maybe close your door or confine them to an area or in a room in the night time.

i don't know why cats are like that. maybe they need attention but why seek for attention when we are sleeping, right? my boyfriend's cat is like that, too. usually, in the middle of his sleep, his cat comes up to bed and make loud noises which will wake up my boyfriend. and i am glad that my cat isn't like that. he is usually at peace which i find myself lucky about.

I don't love cat.I think in as much as it as been your for a long period of time, and the cat is trying to develop a new character, there is a great need for you to replace it with a new and young cat.Because i have got to discover that animals too can do some crazy things in as much they stay long in the house.

I have the same problem like you with my cat. Almost every night my cat was meowing load until I woke up. While I was petting him he didn't meowing any more but after I was going to my bad he was starting to meowing again.

It is in their nature from before domestication. Their prey (mice etc) are often nocturnal so they are used to being awake at night! Also, if your cat is like mine, he sleeps all day and is ready to run full throttle at night! Our cat was doing the same thing and we ended up having to shut our bedroom door! I could not keep going without sleep and then be safe to practice at the hospital the next day! Of course, my children are 17 and 18 and I don't need to keep an ear out for them either. I'm sure those with very young children may not want to have their door shut.

Cats are nocturnal. I have learnt to live with the nonsense my cats are up to at night. I have one especially load one and when she yells at me...in my face at night I just kick her out of the room and go back to bed=)

Kitties are nocturnal. I put in ear plugs, run a fan-for white noise, run some pink noise (crickets cricketing)...I sleep pretty good now.

Mine don't wake me up that much. They will sleep with us most of the time. I guess you could shut the bedroom do and keep him out?

LOL! My grandmas cat does this to her also. She says she will wake up in the middle of the night to hear his paws, thud, thud, thud across the floor from one side of the room to the other...LOL. He tips things over, makes loud crying sounds, jumps on th bed and punces on her, talks to her ect. Luckily she stays at home so she can take a little nap during the day. Is it just male cats that do this? This is why they are soooo lazy and sleepy during the day, LOL. All hers ever does is sleep and eat all day long!
