With all the info we have on the threats of skin cancer caused in part by sunbathing or tanning in booths, do you listen to what they are saying or do you still lay in the sun, searching for the best tan?

i do listen to the advice about sunbathing. i used to use sunbeds when i was younger but wont go near them now because i now know the risks of skin cancer and premutue aging of the skin. i always wear sun cream when ever i go out even in the winter and i never sit out in the sun. i use fake tan instead of sunbathing i think its a far better option than causing long term damage to my skin.

Good for you. I think the sunless products have come a long way. I'd rather use them then sweat in the sun and do damage to my skin. Thanks for replying.

it is only right that we stay away from the ill effects of hte sun's rays. we have to aware of the fact that the sun is no longer as friendly as it used to be. the damaged ozone layer can no longer function the way it used to. those sun creams are doing us a lot of good. these are very useful products to have. i make sure that i don't run out of them, too.

Yeah, I avoid getting too much exposure from the sun. it's better safe than sorry. =) Here's a nice joke about sunbathing: Joan, who was a rather well-proportioned secretary, spent almost all of her vacation sunbathing on the roof of her hotel. She wore a bathing suit the first day, but on the second, she decided that no one could see her way up there, and she slipped out of it for an overall tan. She'd hardly begun when she heard someone running up the stairs. She was lying on her stomach, so she just pulled a towel over her rear. "Excuse me, miss," said the flustered assistant manager of the hotel, out of breath from running up the stairs. "The Hilton doesn't mind your sunbathing on the roof, but we would very much appreciate your wearing a bathing suit as you did yesterday." "What difference does it make?" Joan asked rather calmly. "No one can see me up here, and besides, I'm covered with a towel." "Not exactly," said the embarrassed man. "You're lying on the dining room skylight." =)

I like to lay out by the pool. It's relaxing and sometimes I can get a little nap in. I heard that as long as you don't get burned and start to peel that you aren't really damaging your skin. I don't know if that's true or not, but I'm not worried because I rarely go out tanning.

That is good if you don't over indulge! And the warmth of the sun does feel good.

I have never been one to lay in the sun. I saw how the older women looked who had worked in the garden in the sun...they are all wrinkled up. I put sunscreen on everyday of my life and hopefully it will prevent some of the wrinkles. In the winter, most of the women who live in the Southern states and get such dark tans look like they have leather skin...not for me. I also listen to the skin cancer facts...prevention is the best cure.

anything that is too much is not good. a little sun will do you no harm.

the threat of getting skin cancer due to overexposure to the sun is so real. i no longer get myself exposed to the sun unnecessarily. it has been told that as as the sun's heat bites, we have to keep out of it. by now, it is already a biting sun that' up there at 8:30 am, it used to be 10:00 am years ago and it was not cancer causing at all even if people will stay under the sun's heat all day long. i have hats, wide brimmed, and umbrellas for cover if i have to be out with the sun up. also, we are now advised to use sunglasses whenever out. the sun's rays can now cause blindness, too.
