Too young for MTV?

One of the moms in our local play group admitted that she lets her six year old daughter watch MTV. Do you think it's right to expose a child to those types of influences at such a young age? Or, am I being old fashioned?

A six year old watching MTV? I'm sorry, but I feel that is being irresponsible. I was never allowed to watch it unless I felt I could watch it with my parents, and of course, I never felt comfortable doing that. Eighteen seems to be a good age to give children or teens the choice to watch it. It didn't use to be so bad, but I'm shocked about what MTV will show these days. I'm probably going to get some negative feeback over my comment, but that is what I feel is the truth.

Your not going to get negative feedback from me because I agree with everything you said. Its true at 6years old NO kid should be watching MTV..come on you ever watch the show The Real World all they do is drink and sleep with random people. I agree with you AmbiePam

Thanks. I fear that if even teens watch shows like "The Real World" they will think that is OK to do and worse, that it is the norm.

Yea especially these days teenage girls are so quick to wanna get there "beads" for showing there valuables and what there not thinking about is how people look at them..when they act like that people look at them like trash. Look at Girls Gone Wild..perfect example of how girls need better role models

YIKES! I wouldnt let my 6 yr old watch MTV. Although when spring get here my 3 yr old watches it with my husband when Im sleeping :V. Hubby always watches all those girls in the bikinis.....as does my 3 yr old. But I DONT LET HIM WATCH it and I wouldnt either. None of it. Its for teenagers and not age appropriate!

Don't worry. We know that you're a good mom. Guys are really hard to control. And, husbands tend to do things behind our backs that we would never do ourselves. Did that come out right? I was trying to be encouraging. :)

6 years old watching MTV...are you serious? HECK NO I wouldnt let my daughter watch MTV at 6 years old. MTV is filled with alot of things she shouldnt be watching, all they show is girls shaking their booty and people always making out. Their is nothing educational on MTV for a child who is 6..the only thing that little girl is going to learn is how to shake her butt for a guy and how to kiss random people. Im sorry to say it like that but its the truth. I have a 4yr old daughter and I would never let her watch that type of crap at such a young age.

Um no. I dont even watch MTV. Because it is stupid. But I'd never let my daughter watch it at such a young age. Seems like by the time she is 6, they'll be allowed to say anything on tv.

So true. MTV started out with just videos during the early 80's, and it went downhill from there. They're spoon feeding all this junk to vulnerable teens. And, people wonder why so many teen girls hate the way they look. They're picking up the wrong messages from their "friends".
