I Am Tired of Shoddy Internet Service!

I am tired of shoddy internet service, wasting time calling technical support with no results. I am sick of dealing with an ISP who does not care about its customers. Throughout much of the past weekend, my family has been without internet access once again. This is not the first time, and I doubt it will be the last. Our ISP pretty much has a monopoly on the high-speed internet access in our area, so unless we wish to go back to the dialup, we are pretty much stuck with their shoddy service. We signed up for a three-year contract with them for their satellite internet service. The contract expires in August, and I have been hoping that some other company would offer internet access in the area by that time. Things are not looking too promising though, and the past couple of years have been a big waste of time and money, not to mention a tremendous amount of frustration. Over the past couple of years, we have been forced to call their technical support people a ridiculous amount of times, and usually get no satisfaction whatsoever. I make a call and they tell me they will look into the problem and call me back, then when I give up and call them back an hour later, nobody knows that there is a problem. My family spent more than seven hours dealing with these people today alone, and still no results. This was after being without service for most of the weekend. Each time, it comes down to this company wanting to charge a huge service call to send someone out to our home to see what the problem is. Since the problem was ongoing since installation, I would assume that it was obviously never installed correctly in the first place. I will not pay for a service call when they should fix their mistakes free of charge. I do not know if there is anyplace that I can file a formal complaint against this company, so I guess for now I’ll just get it off my chest here. I’m angry. I’m very angry. They do this very often, and I do not deserve to be treated this way.

You might want to contact your local chapter of the Better Business Bureau, or write a letter of formal complaint with the main headquarters of the ISP AND the BBB, just to be on the safe side.

Unfortunately, I have already been dealing with the owner of the ISP, they only have the one location. I have not contacted the BBB yet, but thanks for the suggestion. Perhaps just the threat of being reported could bring results. If not, I guess my service cannot get much worse anyway.

There are so many ISP's out there so there is no reason to put up with this stuff. I had netscape and they were wonderful. Now I have verizon due to the move I was forced to make and if they act up they will be history also. I can move on and probably get a better deal. Good luck in handling this computer snafu and may it never happen again.

Netscape is under 10 dollars and I had it rurally. Walmart.com and you get it there. People PC is another and I had some problems with them so I moved on. They are reasonably priced and you can have them there too. I am sure you could find another and just need to look and take a stand. If they lose enough customers then they will have to change how they do business. Good luck!

There are a couple of others available if I want to go back to dialup, but I really don't want to do that. Even those with low pricing would cost much more for me though because unless they have a toll free dialup number, I would have long distance charges for almost any company I could possibly go through from here. There are two even smaller ISPs within my local calling area, and both provide only dialup service. I have heard nothing but complaints from those who use either of them. I used one of them for a while and they shut off my "unlimited" internet access when they felt I had been online too long. I was also disconnected every half hour or so, if not more often, and their technical support number was long distance so every time I had problems (which was often) I would have to make another long distance call.

I only wish there were so many ISPs here, but unfortunately, there are not. That is the disadvantage of living in a rural area. I hope that Verizon will come around one of these days. They are talking about maybe doing soon, but then they have said that before. So far, it has been supposed to be coming soon for a few years.

Although BellSouth (now the New AT&T) ticked me off when they took six months to connect my DSL, they nevertheless were pretty good about tech support and I don't have any problems with them. Juno Web, my first ISP, was a nightmare to deal with. Okay, they were cheaper than AOL and all, but when they were trying to outdo AOL by offering 150 hours of FREE Internet access a month, they shot themselves in the foot because (a) the more traffic they had the easier it was for users to be disconnected, and (b) when that became too expensive to the company coffers, they penalized dues paying members by charging them $30 a month if they were "heavy users." They refused to negotiate with me - I was willing to limit my usage to 150 hours, but they said no, so I canceled my account and moved over to AOL before that ISP got on my nerves and I got DSL with BellSouth.

Hi Kelly, I just want to let you know that I have "suffered" similarly and I hate my present ISP. I have ranted enough times at myLot and I have hit my ranting quota today lol. Anyway, I guess you can try complaining to the management of the company. Or just switch provider if possible.

I have complained to them so many times that I am blue in the face. It just does not seem to do any good. You would think that they would care enough to want their customers to stop telling others about what lousy service they provide. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any other service available in my area, unless we go back to dialup, and that would really be a problem for us.

It is the same thing here. They don't care because it is more like a monopoly. I simply gave up complaining.
