In Illinois it is a requirement to have auto insurance on any vehicle that you own and put on the road. This can be a good thing in one respect but it can also be a bad thing. It allows insurance companies to declare open season on the people who have to insure their cars. I recently got a conclusion to an issue with the people who insured my car when it was involved in an accident. (No I wasn't driving) It took them forever to settle the claim not to mention the numerous trips to court only to hear their attorney come up with one excuse or another for a delay. I also feel that when a person has to hire an attorney to get the insurance company to do its job the attorneys fees should not come out of the claimants settlement, but that the insurance company should be made to pay them in full. This insurance company should not be allowed to be in the business, They spend more money on paying attorneys to keep from paying legitimate claims than they pay out in claims in my opinion. Does anyone else feel that there should be limits to the premiums insurance companies are allowed to charge and time limits set on the payment of claims? I hope I never come into contact with this insurance company again in my lifetime.

It all depends on your company. If you get one of these 'we insure for XX% less' companies, then just remember, you get what you pay for. I'm insured with state farm, and have had an accident while with their coverage, and I can attest that they are awesome. I was clearly at fault but, *They paid me $4,500 more than my truck was worth *They paid about $250,000 to the people in the other car *They paid for many chiropractor visits for me, despite the fact that I didn't think I needed them. *They paid for time out of work, despite the fact that I never missed a day of work. *They paid for a rental car for 30 days. *They paid for both trucks to be towed away. *They did all this ON THEIR OWN without even asking me if I wanted them to, much less getting a lawyer. I never even had to talk to them; I just got checks in the mail. *After this was all over, my insurance rates actually went DOWN! With an insurance company that treats you right, getting in a wreck can be a good thing.

I think there are some descent plans out there, but there are also alot of "Fly by Night" companies, that never inttend on paying out claims. They just collect your premiums every month and take them to the bank. Mean while we keep this paper that makes it all legal???? I think the laws need to be changed. Not only the insurance laws, but many others as well. I have had my liscence since the day I turned sixteen, and have never had an accident or a ticket, yet I am still paying out over $600 a month/ every month to be legal!
