Once a year at this time of year my city has a contest for the best home made ice cream. There were twelve stores that participated. My grandkids were over and they and I went from store to store trying the different flavors ice cream. We were out for two hours going to the different stores. We had all different flavors and tried them all. The kids had a ball and so did I. Of course, after two hours of walking my legs were killing me and I was beat. The grandkids were still ready to go to the playground. We had a ball! Does any body other have a city where they have this type of contest? Not necessarily ice cream but on the food type contest?

We have a potato festival in September. A lot of the farmers around this area grow potatoes. The festival takes place the weekend after Labor Day weekend. Its a big thing here even though the population of the town is probably 3000. Everyone seems to enjoy it because they keep on doing it.

They have a potato festival queen contest. And the runners up make up her court. There are carnival rides, a parade and in the park are exhibits and games and stuff going on. The also have a mud volleyball contest. And for the last couple of years they have had "Rods in the Field" which is local people showing off there hot rods. I think that pretty much covers it. It starts on Friday night and goes through Sunday morning. I think some organization does a pancake breakfast on Sunday morning.

That sounds like a lot of fun. What kind of things are done in potato festival. I realize that it centers around the potato for the most part. But do they have games and different dishes that are potato recipes. I like hearing about the different things that different cities do. It is very fascinating to me.

This is just so much fun. It is a shame that all the smaller cities don't do this. I love it and look forward to it every year. Thanks for your response, dear friend.

Thanks for the compliment. I like to make people smile and have a smile on my face all the times. Smile and the world smiles with you as I say.
To the ice cream contest. There were Chipperoo, Chocolate Covered Strawberry, Flower Power, Hairy Bairy Vanilla, Fresh Strawberry Sundae, Rich Summer Delight, Caramel Sin, Big Red, Totally Nuts, Patriotic Praline Pecan. Those were the ones we tried. There were only two other stores but they were completely on the other side of the city. The grandkids tried to have me walk with them down there and I mentioned to them they were out of their tree. If they wanted to go down there we would go get the car and drive down there. They decided against that. The one I liked the best was the Carmel Sin. I love carmel and there was enough of it to get a real good taste. Before the summer is out the city is having a chili cook out and the best chili will be voted for. I had a ball and so did the grandkids. I always try to find different things for them to do when they come over.

What an excellent way to spend time with your family and have fun too. When my nieces and nephews were younger we would go to a local flower/nursery center at Halloween for hayrides, face painting, balloon sculptures. One time one of the employees was dressed up as an old hag/witch and sat motionless while several groups went by commenting on the realism of the statue. When our turn came, my niece went to touch the "statue" and she came to life! She literally scared all of us. I know this is not food related, but it was a great outing with family.
