I use the peeler because it's so much easier and I don't feel like I have a chance of cutting off my finger or slicing it. I have had that happen before where I sliced my finger with a knife so I am deathly afraid of using knives too often.

I have noticed that some of the peelers are better than others. I have bought one that I like better. Appreciate the response!

My husband usally does all or most of the cooking around here. I know he uses a knife, and that is what he prefers. I either never peel the potatoes or I use a peeler if I am doing the Cooking of potatoes.

I have only ever used potato peelers. If I am in a situatuon where I need to use a knife, I find it fairly difficult. I guess it's what we are used to.

I use a knife...that is when I peel potatoes and trust me if there is anyway I can get out of it I will. Peeling potatoes is the worst chore in the kitchen when I am cooking. I usually beg my husband to do it for me if I can, and he then uses a peeler.

I agree with you Angelwhispers, about potato peeling being a chore. I dislike it immensely, but sometimes it can't be avoided.

My habit is always a potato peeler. I'll use a knife to cut out the brown spots and of course to dice it.

i cook for my wife only on sundays.... and potato forms a major cooking ingredient in my cuisine.. i find potatoes very easy to cook. i prefer using a peeler to peel potatoes. i find knife is very inconvenient. moreover i had got my fingers cut a couple of times when i could not find the peeler and had to use a knife.

I too, use a paring knife, as that's what my mother always used, and that's the way she taught me. I find I can't get used to using the peelers. Maybe the method used depends somewhat on our age ... interesting thought.

I use a knife. It is so much easier for me and qicker. When I use to use a peeler it would take me forever to peel one potato. So I just use a knife, I know I waste alot of the potato because I don't cut as close as the peeler would get but I don't care =)

I prefer to use a knife to peel the potatoes I am going to use. I find that a knife is faster for me. I haven't used a potato peeler since I was a child. Thanks for reminding me of them though. I think its time to get my children one.

I usually use potato peeler's, it's faster, and there's less waste. My girlfriend just found out about potato peeler's past year, and she thought it was the best thing is peanut butter and jelly. Older generations, like my parents would have a hard time with potato peeler's, my mom could do just about anything with a kitchen knife.

for potatoes I am much more at ease using a sharp paring knife...although, I do tend to waste a lot of the potato that way. for carrots I will use the veggie peeler. for cukes and zucchini and such I will use whichever I grab, no preference. if I want to get the strings off of celery it is the peeler for me.

I have never gotten good a peeling potatoes period. That was hubbys job, and he always used the potatoe peeler. He acted like it was easy but I never got the hang of it. I dont know what I was doing wrong, but oh well! The knife seems even harder to me.

Hi, eadoreman6. I have never used a potato peeler before. I would like to learn how to use one though. I think I may have some trouble getting used to using one of these peelers too.

eaforeman6, I always used my little kitchen knife that I have had for years. I just don't like to use potato peeler because to be me they are cumbersome. Have a wonderful evening Snowqueen
