Most of you, if you have heard of my 5 year old daughter Niamh , know that she is full of love, life laughter and most of all mischief! Not today though - poor little mite was up at 3 am in the morning being sick and having bad tummy pains! She was like a little lost soul and the only thing that helped her, apart from cuddling mummy and an ice pack on her tummy was to have mummy and granny sing her favourite lullaby for her - over and over and over! Thing is my Gran always told me this was my favourite lullaby and was the only thing that would settle me when I was upset and make me feel more peaceful when I was ill! My oldest son , at almost 14 , still loves to hear the song and if he is ill virtually begs me to sing it to him! These are the lyrics Go to sleep my baby, close you pretty eyes The angels up above you, look down deary from the sky A great big moon is shining, the stars begin to peep Its time for little (childs name) to go to sleep! Do you have a lullaby that has this effect on you or your family? Do you know our lullaby? Best question til last, do you STILL love to hear your lullaby now? xxxx

I dont have a favourite one, but yours is lovely. I forget them...lol. I have to get my daughter to remind me, but thats ok because then she thinks she is special, which she is.

oh that is so sweet 0 and don't all 7 year old girls need to feel special! I dread to think what would happen if I forgot their song I mean Niall is almost 14 and if he isn't well it still helps him - but don't tell anyone, it's a secret - well from his teenage friends it is! xxx

I always say we must be related and this proves it , I sang this song to my three boys and my four grandchildren , I used to sing it over and over until they went to sleep , as I was reading it on your post I was singing it at the same time , I used to sing hush- a-bye baby , but hubby used to sing on the screw top instead of tree top and I cant sing it now without laughing , You know how mad he is xx

See we are family! lol I'm glad you know that song too honey - can just get you along to sing it to Niamh when I can't keep my eyes open any longer! lol I have thought of the baby falling from the top of the tree thats why I don't usually sing hush a bye baby - can just imagine your sweetheart singing about a baby on a screwtop! lol xxx

My mam used to sing Ba Ba Black Sheep. She is so consistent that when my nephew, who will be turning 23 next month learned to talk, he called her 'Baba' because he had heard her say it so much. That then mushroomed into all the other grandchildren born after calling her some variation of that. Mine call her 'Bobby' and that is now what I refer to her as, also. 'Your Bobby said this, your Bobby did that'. It is unique, but then agin, so is their Bobby! Hope your little one is feeling better :-) I bet you are bleary eyed today! Don't sing too many lullabies or you may fall asleep too!

This reminds me, when my son was real little I used to sing words I made up to music from another song (I can't remember the title right now nor can I remember all the words) but went something like Mommy loves J______, yes she do Mommy loves J______, all night thru Mommy loves J______, short or tall Mommy loves J______, big or small Mommy loves J______, all night thru Mommy loves J______, yes she do! Anything else I tried to sing tho' he'd cry. LOL

I like that song mizrae it would be very reassuring wouldn't it! Funny how they latch on to the song they like and whenever they don't get it they let you know isn't it! She ended up in hospital but is home now and doing better, we are waiting on some test results and will probably need to have her kidneys scanned again my friend but we are hoping for the best - thank you for asking! xx

The lullaby I used to sing to baby Daniel, the 5 week old baby boy I looked after was simple but effective, it always sent him off to sleep 'Go to sleep my ba...ahhhh...by 'My ba haaaaaaa by....' 'My ba baaaaaaa by....... 'Go to sleep my ba......ah...by' 'Close your weary eyes' 'And sleep my precious, precious ba....ahhhh...by' starts to yawn, then slumps down on the keyboard after singing that to myself lol, zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

That is lovely.I want you to call me tonight and sing me to sleep... My mother in law would rock my kids singing a song with no words.I funny little tune that has been passed from her mom and gran.I think it was an Irish thing because that is where her mother was born..It is so hard to explain because it isn't really word..anyway not words that I understand. My best healing thought for our little sweet to get better right away. xoxoxo Mom

I never really sang traditional lullabies to my daughter. I'll sing whatever comes to mind at the time but she still has her favorites. "You Are My Sunshine", "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", "Star Spangled Banner", and "America the Beautiful". But her favorite for calming her down has to be "You Are My Sunshine". For getting her to sleep, it's "Rudolph.." :)

Isn't it funny how they like different songs for different things! Your daughter sounds very patriotic Gumball! Do you sing Rudolph properly with the 'You know Dasher and Dancer' bit at the beginning? Taht is my favourite bit of the song and hardly anyone sings that! lol xxx

When I was a baby, I would only let my Mom sing "Hush Little Baby". My poor mom couldn't sing any other song. I still like it, but I like "Baby Mine" from Dumbo better :)

I love Hush little baby too - what a fantastic song - I have sung it to both of my kids and they love the song but it doesn't work when they are ill or upset - weird isn't it! xxx

You know I like children and I have two nephew. One is already grown up but she still loves me a lot, lot and lot. The other is now 3. I am always their best friend and they loved me just like their mother as I always love the child just like my own child( thats why I am always very much favourite to them.) Both of them are just like Niamh but they like any song, any kind of song and whenever they have a problem with anything either with health or anything else they always ask us to sing for them or start the music player for them.

I am glad you have a great relationship with your nephews my friend - it is a great feeling isn't it? What is it they say that music can cure all ills? It really can help most people in many ways! xxx
