I've noticed that there are a quite of few of really good actors and actresses who are often under-rated and ignored by hollywood. They just can't seem to find full-blown success of the Johnny Depp but are certainely deserving of it.
My pick for the most under-rated actor is Val Kilmer. He has range and makes every movie he is in that much better. Sadly he is often overlooked by many.
So who is your favorite under-rated actor or actress, and why do you think they are deserving of greatness?

These may seem like odd choices, but to me, the most underrated actor and actress would be Steve Buscemi and Leelee Sobieski. Steve Buscemi does take odd roles, but he just has something that no other actor can bring to that role. As for Leelee, hear earlier movies were very teen angst and I think she got typecast. I hope she can overcome this since I haven't heard of her doing a movie in a while.

Steve Buscemi I see all the time in the movies and you are right he is underrated. He has taken some odd roles over the years but he always does a great performance. I loved him in Argemeddon, Spy Kids 2 and so many, many more.

I agree with you that Steve Buscemi is great actor. I don't think he is under-rated as most people know of him and his work and love him. He's one of the cult actor types that people just love. Once he did Resovoir Dogs he became a household name.
Leelee Sobieski is another actor like Colin Firth for me. I know the name, but can't place the face or remember any roles that she has been. I'll have to try and spot some of her work on cable to refresh my memory.

I agree with you on Val Kilmer. I've enjoyed him in many movies and he never seems to get the acclaim he deserves. I have a few of his movies here and one of my favorites is The Saint. He did a great job in that one.
A couple of others that come right to mind are Gary Oldman and Tim Curry. Both are fantastic actors and you see a lot of them but so often they are not given the credit they deserve.
Just to point out many actors and actresses are around for a long time before they ever reach taht success, the 20 year over night success as some call it. Tommy Lee Jones was one and so was Johnny Depp. Both did movies for years and years before suddenly becoming very sucessful and well known.

Thanks :) They are two that I really enjoy and actually have several movies with them in it.
An actress did come to mind and that is Kathy Bates. She's excellent and really does some fabulous work. I'd like to see her in more actually.

The one actor that comes to mind is rap artist Ludacris. He is a fine actor. i loved his work in Crash and Hustle and Flow.he was good as a guest star on Law and Order.

Ludacris isn't a bad actor, he has done some decent acting in the few roles he has taken. Whether or not he hits the big time is dependent on what future rolls he takes. It's kind've hard to judge him since he hasn't done that much acting yet.

I would have to say Colin Firth, he was in Love Actually, the diary of Bridget Jones and Nanny Macphee, I love his movies and he is very under rated.
