Do you tell all?

I went to have my hair cut at the hair salon today. I sat in amazement as women spilled thier guts to the hairdressers! I'm beginning to think that those who attend beutician's school should take courses in psychology, as they are functioning as therapists while they cut/style hair! Do you 'tell all' or 'spill your guts' at the hair salon?

I haven't been to the salon in years. But...I don't even tell "all" to people I've worked with for years. I have to know I can trust someone before I share intensely personal things, or things about my family life. I was never one of those who went to work and told everyone about every little problem. I never believed in "airing your dirty laundry in public".

I think its the same concept as talking to a bar tender and spilling the weight of the world to a stranger. Sometimes our world is so limited, and we just need to have someone to sound out on. I found that true when I was nursing as well, I would have a patient, or for that a family member of a sick person, who needed to talk. Thats all just talk, they were not asking for advice but just someone to listen to them.
But No I don't do this with strangers, well let me rephrase that I do not do it with people that are providing a service for me. I do however talk to a few online friends, although that hardly is a stranger, it is in a sense someone I have not "officially" met.

Well here in my country we are often so comfortable with our hairdressers that even private stuff are talked in public. Like when we go to a salon we often go to the same place because we like or accustomed to the hairdresser, so it's kinda like a bond with the beautician. But it depends on each person how close they are to that person.

I'll sit there and have a conversation from time to time. But there is no way I am going to spill it or tell my life story. Sorry 'bout ya...but you have to be someone pretty darn close to me to know all those details! ha ha
Heck! Even then I don't always want to tell all because I fear worrying those I love. So why would I tell a complete stranger? LOL

My hairdresser knows everything about me! She is a very good friend, and I hold her dear. I also know everything about her! With us, it's a two way street. By the way, she also does my hair at her house, so the community doesn't know all!

I don't say much when l get my hair cut, I'm to busy listening to all the local gossip. It totally amazes me what you find out.

I would not go that far unless I know that person at the salon. But, sometimes is ok to tell your problems to a stranger because they won't judge you at all because they don't really know you.

No.. No.. No.. I don't :)
Here most talk to others about previous customers and I mean they tell anything even if it holds nothing to the person they're telling.
I don't speak. I think it's shameful that the barbers/hairdressers around here would rather tell what others have told them instead of being friendly.
Seems to be quite a common thing in the united kingdom.

P.s Bring back those days they'd drive us mad talking about the weather! ;)

I hardly ever get to go to a hairdresser but when I do the one I see lives close and is really friendly. I don't really see it as "spilling my guts". It's more like getting some adult conversation, sharing life stories/experiences, and just plain getting to know each other better. The way I see it, she needs to show me "who" she is so I'm comfortable enough to keep going back and I need to let her know "who" I am so she knows what I need from her and what will suit my life the best.
But that might be a little different than the conversations you're referring to. I don't go into detail about "certain" issues. If that's the kind of thing you heard, then I'm sitting hear in amazement as well!

God no not me. I live in a small town of about 900 nosey residents and I don't have to spill my guts because everyone already knows what happened to me yesterday today and tomorrow. I've just never seen the beat of it. LOL

Oh gosh, this is crazy. I do NOT like talking with the hairdresser/barber. As far as I am concerned, I just want my hair cut. If I want conversation, there are better places to go look for it. :P

I never know what to say at the hair salon... I think it just depends on whether the person is naturally social or not. My hair dresser is a really nice person and she always asks me how I'm doing in school and how my life is, and I do my best to answer. But, I never talk very much unless she asks me a question or I'm talking about my hair. I guess I'm very bad at making small talk!

Geez. I never thought about it. We talk up a storm when I am there about whats going on in my life but Ive never thought about if I tell too much. YIKES Next time I go I will be very quiet.hehe. I actually have heard 2 different hair dressers say that they were going to take up psychology too, LOL

I have many untold stories, these are issues that are either too embarrassing to be talked about or issues that brush upon painful old wounds that had better be left to heal completely and away from the mind! The way I see it, there are things i probably will never ever tell anybody except my God, who is all knowy and who destines that some of those things should happen around me!

LOL I too have sat in silence just listening at the local gossip and who is cheating who and all the personal life stories they have time to tell. LOL Nope, I do not do that. I am a firm believer in keeping family problems at home and I do not gossip so I have very little to talk to a stranger about when she is cutting my hair. LOL I cant believe people really do this. Do they think, nobody will tell??? LOL
