Where Do You Go To Get Away From It All?

Most people have one type of stress, or another, in their lives, and sometimes need to take a break. For me, my favourite way to do this, is to spend a weekend, or a week if possible, visiting my sister. We're very close, and see each other limited times throughout the year. We plan fun outings at these times, and just hang-out together, with our kids (still), if we can. What's your favourite place 'to retreat to?' Do you share this time with someone, and how long do you usually spend there?

I am not working outside of the house anymore, and in the winter I am housebound because of my arthritis and the pain but I use the internet for working and for winding down. I like to get out and go to dinner with my partner and that is what we do to wind down and relax, sometimes we just sit in the park and talk and enjoy the cool evening breeze

I'm in a similar situation as you, winterose, although yours sounds even more difficult than mine. I too, do all of the above things to 'wind down,' and they're great 'therapy,' as well. My 'escape' to my sister's several times a year, is 'the ultimate getaway' for me. So good to hear from you, and thanks very much for your response.:)

These all sound like great ways to take a 'timeout' guolong. I especially like the hill climbing, as when I was younger, I found getting outdoors, and especially near water to be very relaxing. Playing games and connecting to someone online, are also helpful. Thanks for your response, and welcome to myLot.:)

I used to go holidays but hubby isn't fit now , as you know pal I have a lot of family stress and at the moment personal too , I relax when I am driving , WE go for drives with my Mum and Dad . We went to Loch Lomond today and it was lovely , I really don't mind if people are in the car with me or not , when I talk to anyone and I am driving I never turn to them , I just look forward and chatter away ( I am good at chatting lol ). when I am really wound up I just go for a drive , Hubby and I usually have a Friday to ourselves and we go out in the car , It doesn't really matter where , Just for a drive , xx

I'm so glad that you can take relaxing drives weemam. My (late) husband and myself, used to do this too, when our daughter was just little. I love to chat too.:) Loch Lomond sounds lovely, and it always reminds me of the old song, where it's mentioned. I don't think we visited there, when I was in Scotland many years ago. We did pass by Loch Ness however, but it was too foggy to see anything, so, not a glimpse of the 'monster.':) Thanks so much for your response.

If I tried to get away from it all it wouldn't work the kids would just follow me! lol I tend to 'escape' inside my head - you can go anywhere and do anything and it is so relaxing - pretty sad aren't I? xxx

I can relate to having your children follow you mummymo. That was the case when my daughter was little, and my niece and nephew would follow my sister, as well. My sister and I would take our getaway time together, with all 3 kids in tow. Nowadays, we miss those times, as they're all older, and are ages 20,17,&16. My daughter is the youngest. Actually I escape 'inside my head' as well at times, and you're right, it can be very relaxing, and another thing, the price is sure right.:) Thanks for sharing.
