How do you wash your hands?

When washing your hands do you wet them first and then put the soap on or do you put the soap on then wet your hands? I have seen so many people in public bathrooms that will put the soap on their hands then wet them and proceed with rubbing them together and rinsing. I will wet my hands first then go for the liquid soap, I think I am just so used to using a bar soap that it is habbit for me to wet my hands first and it seems odd to do it any other way. LOL. What do you do?

I have to get my hands wet before I put the soap on them...I guess it is like rinsing them off first because if you just put the soap on it seems like it would just spread the dirt around on your hands...just my silly thoughts!!

I think the same way. Although that is the point of rinsing after as well as taking the soap off it takes the dirt with it.

When I'm home or at church or someone else's home, I turn on the faucet, put soap on my hands, and then wet them and proceed to wash them. If I'm out somewhere, I get a paper towel to turn on the faucet, and proceed to do the same thing. lol

Sorry, but you can't find fault with my methods. : ) I use a paper towel to turn the faucet off, and when I leave I push the door open with my foot.

Do you use the paper towel to turn off the faucet as well? I don't really see the point of using it to turn it on because you are washing the dirt off anyway and if you don't use the paper towel to turn it off then all the dirt goes back on your hands. As well when you leave the facility do you use your sleeve to open the door? Lots of germs there to.

LOL Oh ok sorry didn't mean to be so hard on you! I know people don't even think of that stuff, they go and wash their hands and then touch the faucet again or the door to go out. I find most of the doors pull to open so I will use my sleeve which isn't great but better than nothing.

LOL I do know what you mean I don't do that anymore but I use to do that before I washed my hands rather than after. Needless to say I didn't have too many pants without stains on them. Thanks for the comment.

I do it either way, I think. Sometimes I rinse first then lather, sometimes I do it the other way. The important thing is that I DO wash my hands!

You are right that is the important thing that you do wash your hands. I didn't want to specify whether it was after toileting or working with food or what so I didn't put someone on the spot. LOL. Thanks for the comment.

I just wet my hands first and then apply soap on it. Applying soap first and then water would wash away all the soap and the reason behind applying the soap would be ruined.

i usually wet my hand first and then put the soap... i think it is the same reason as you... it is because i am so used to use bar soap instead of the liquid one...

i do the same as you did, wet my hands first then i'll used the soap to make my hands clean.I think those who are put the soap first doesn't think about other users(i mean at the public toilet). After they finish doing 'thing'(you know what i mean),they at least must wash their hands first because when they use the soap first, their dirty hands are touching the soap and this make the soap very dirty for other users to use it.At least they have to think that there are many people who are gonna use the soap again and again.

Hi I usually wet them and then use the soap dispenser, lather my hands up and scrub the front and back of my hands and inside the fingers, then I start to scrape out my nails while running the water over them, even if they look clean, People would probably think I was obsessed with washing my hands if they had to see me wash them LOL... Im pretty thorough especially when it comes to hands...

I usually wet my hands first, then put the soap on them and then rub them together. If I am talking or otherwise distracted I will usually just put the soap on first. I never really thought about it either.

first of all I mdon't like talking about taht subject because I have gotten into to many arguments through the years with people that I have seen only turn on the water and stick just thioer finger tipe under the water and the n dry them. I have also had big, big time arguments with people that won't wash their hands after they have gone to the bathroom and then wants t go into the fridge. To end this you are right you wet your hands first and put the soap on them and then wash for at least 10 to 20 seconds, and then rinse them off.

I do always wash my hands before and after I eat my breakfast, lunch and dinner. Washing your hands always shows that you have a proper hygiene, thats why you have to wash your hands everyday. Always maintain a good hygiene.

Wash Hands - I make sure to scrub between the fingers, back of my hand, fingers, wrist and of course the plam of my hand before I rinse.
Well I always wet my hands first before I use soap or liquid soap. Then I make sure to scrub between the fingers, back of my hand, fingers, wrist and of course the plam of my hand before I rinse. Our health teacher in high school taught us how to wash our hands proeperly, I think doctors do this steps also.

If i am at home i wet then soap my hands then proceed with the washing. If i am in a public resteroom with the liquid soap i soap then wet and wash as to not get the soap pump wet for the next person i think. dunno but until just now i never thought of how i acually washed my hands lol

LOL It's not really something alot of people think about. That is interesting though that you soap first so as not to get the pump wet for the next person, that is very thoughtful of you. I would have never thought of doing that. Now I sound like this horrible person! LOL

I wet my hands first and then apply soap. If you apply soap before wetting, it feels like the amount of soap is not enough for a clean wash. But very little is enough while doing it the other way round. I'm not a miser, but i'm reluctant to waste things unecessarily.

Ya I don't like wasting soap and other things unecessarily either. With the liquid soap it is very easy to get way too much then it is hard to get it off your hands easily. Thanks for the comment.
7 Jun 07
This is an interesting concept although I never gave it much thought up until now. I put liquid soap first then wet my hands. Why? I think it's because I don't want to get the soap dispenser all wet and soggy, so to speak, thus leaving it neat for the next person (or myself if it's at home).

Another poster said the same thing for the same reasons. It makes less of a mess as well when you wet your hands first then the water is dripping all over the counter. I have gone into some restrooms where it looked like a flood had taken place and wasn't cleaned up yet because of that. Thanks for the comment.
