More foot prints in the snow.

From An Unnamed Visitor In Virginia - I have never seen or experienced anything out of the ordinary, until, one night my wife and I were driving in the countryside, heading up a mountain in Bedford county, Virginia. We were basically joy riding after we had gotten off from work. Fresh snow was on the ground. We reached a plateau where the road intersected with two other roads. We took the road to the right, and then noticed footprints in the snow. Human footprints, and dog footprints. We followed these prints for about a quarter mile. No other tracks whatsoever were present. No tire tracks, nothing, only virgin snow, except apparent footprints. As we continued up the road we suddenly noticed that the prints in the snow stopped, ceased, were no more. I stopped the truck, got out, and looked at the ground where they ended. I walked towards the edge of the one side of the road thinking that perhaps the individual somehow jumped up and perpendicular to his path. I saw no disturbance whatsoever in the snow down the hillside. I then thought that this person must have backtracked in his prints, playing some sort of trick. I'm convinced that this is not possible without creating a double impression in the snow. This "happening," was about fifteen years ago, but even now my wife and I talk about this strange occurrence that neither of us can explain, or figure out a possible mechanism for. I've explored the possibility that maybe a helicopter dropped a rope for this person to play an elaborate hoax, but this was on a mountain road within a forest and little clearance for this to have taken place.
