I have a problem (I bet many people here have it, too). I am a procrastinator, and find it hard to concentrate on my work. Many times, I'll get sidetracked by something, and then while I'm doing this, I'll get sidetracked by something else.. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone have any suggestions on how to combat procrastination?

The incomplete work makes me feel guilty. I break up the job into small parts and start doing it, bit by bit. At least I will have completed a little bit of the work. It is all right if I put off doing things once in a while and I just enjoy the present but when it starts getting in the way of my daily routine or it affects my performance at work, then the problem requires attention. I learn from kids packing their school bags the previous night for the next day according to the timetable. I too plan my work for the next day at bed time. Also planning the time according to the work is important first. Giving a little time for all activities without overloading the schedule. In this way once someone acquire the work momentum going - say, by organizing your cupboards - transfer that interest and energy to another work like changing the bedspreads, sofa covers etc. you find it easier than later starting from scratch. Reward time is a necessary incentive. Scheduling the favorite pleasant work after an unpleasant one. In your fight against the habit of putting off things do not expect instant results. But the tiniest of gains brings someone small step closer to the goal.

I'm a terrible procrastinator, but I've found a few things that help me stay on top of my work. I try to study and do homework at the same time every day so that it becomes a habit. I also make a list of everything I want to get done that day which makes it easier for me to focus. Also if I get bored with one thing I can switch to working on another item. If I'm really having difficulty I will leave my room and go to the library or a study area in my dorm so I don't have as many distractions. Still some days, I find myself finishing assignments right before class or staying up until 4am writing a paper.

i feel you there! i'm more into cramming, though... putting things aside until the lst minute. it's awful, because it's hard to focus on soemthing at a certain time, but i guess the best and most effective way for us to focus is to develop passion and real interest in what we are doing. isn't it a wonder why we can keep our attention to a really good movie, or why we can't put down a good book? i guess same thing goes there. and i think maybe if we start from there, it will slowly become a practice.
