i think army. army is the real land defence.it is the land defence which needs to be done foremost in any attack.army has the largest quantity of men and is the most important. airforce/navy r too important but army is comes first.

I don't know much about defense, but I think Airforce. You're able to see more and reach more from the air. I know that some wars have been won because the army was more familiar with the terrain in their own country, and the enemy wasn't prepared.

I think each branch is just as important as the other and if it were not so we would not have the different branches that we do for specific jobs. It would stretch one branch way to far if they did it alone and being a military vet myself, I know we claim to be better then other branches but we all play a vital role especially in this day and age. Go Army!!!!! lollllllll couldn't resist.

One a landlocked country may not require naval force, otherwise any country in the modern warfare require all the combined forces - navy, airforce and army. I have enlisted you as my friend and I expect you to to respond one of my discussions everyday as I have done for yours.

If u will see historically, everyone plays their own importance and depends on the war type. All are complementary to each other

In a DEFEMSE I would think that the army would be the most important considering the airforce would be useless to try and bomb our own defenses. The navy would have a limited use up til enemy soldiers got onto land. However the army is mobile and maneuverable on land and would be the best in a defense.

Well, I'm a Navy wife, so I am a bit partial. I do agree that each plays its own role and are equally important and effective. HOWEVER, all you people who voted for air force, keep in mind Navy has a huge air program that can take off from the middle of the ocean and so be anywhere, anytime. They also have land-based planes that do all the jazzy features the air force does. Plus, they have the ships, subs, SEALS, and (sorry Marine wife) the Navy has the Marines (they are a department of the Navy).

it is a very difficult question to answer. . as in the case of a land locked country navy has no use. it depend on the security matrix and threat perception of the country. but if a chance given to me to join any post in the armed forces of an armed forces i would like to be carrier borne fighter pilot. :P

As others here have mentioned, each of these forces actually has to work with all the others for anything to really be accomplished in the shortest amount of time with the least amount of causulties. Therefore, asking which one is the most important possibly is not even an appropiate question. However, if you have to ask.... The AIRFORCE, while being the most technically advanced, and having incredibly qualified people, can be eliminated as the most important immediately. The AIRFORCE does have a strategic role to play with its nuclear capability but when it comes to tactical matters the role of the AIRFORCE is questionable. Basically, the AIRFORCE can not locate many important targets on its own, the AIRFORCE can not take and hold ground, the AIRFORCE is an incredibly inefficient use of funds for what they accomplish, and most damning is their tendency to not work well with the other branches. Ever wonder why the other branches operate their own aircraft? Why do the ARMY, NAVY, and the MARINES all have their own aircraft? The AIRFORCE let them down over and over again so these other branches fought for the right to have aircraft of their own. Modern combat can hardly be fought without the use of aircraft to some extent, but when the people flying those aircraft think they do not have to answer to the people on the ground, it does not work. So, until the AIRFORCE concedes it is an equal partner of the rest of the US MILITARY and not too good to do many of the down and dirty jobs that need to be done in warfare, let's not consider them the most important branch. But that said, without control of the air, no war can be won. The NAVY is an incredible branch. With the MARINES, they have their own ARMY to include infantry, armor, and artillery. With the AIRCRAFT CARRIERS they have their own AIRFORCE. The NAVY does it all and would certainly be the most important branch if the MARINES were made a larger force and given more of the ARMY's mission. However, their primary job is to control the oceans. This they do better than any NAVY has ever done. Without control of the oceans, no war can be won. The ARMY is the largest branch of the US MILITARY. The most capable people our nation can muster to be in charge of the national defense have allocated the money, people, and other resources available in the manner designed to best accomplish the job. Apparently, the best people the USA has in charge of national defence think the ARMY is the most important. Who am I to argue with them?

As Im Australian, I will speak for Australia (only because Im not too familiar with overseas forces) but I feel that each divison is equally important but if i had to pick 1 I'd say Navy. Not being bias because my husband is in the Navy but when the Navy or Air Force go overseas and do operations, they mostly (9 times out of 10) take the Navy ship and crew along. My husband works on the SeaKing helicopters so I know first hand how important all divisions are to the Nation.

as per my thinking we can not able rating any on of them because all the three defence are equily important at their stage because anemy can attact on our country from any side so our all the three defence sector are always ready to fight so each one of them is very important as per my point of view don't you think so?

i think it could only be army. what we r relying on is machine, aircraft can be down ,ships can be faulty but when it comes to real test our brave solider have it all. they give away their life for country, no powerful weapon like human mind and a country solider

i think that are are all equally important. i do find the army most interesting to me tho. i myself was in the artillery during my national service in the northern parts of sweden. it was a great experience that i will never regret of forget.
