Do you read Oprah's Book Club Picks?

Oprah has the power to make (or break) any author. Whenever she picks a book as a book club read, its sales go through the roof. She does pick really good reads though. When she has a new pick, do you read it?

Sometimes she picks very literary novels. She chose three Faulkner books: Absalom, Absalom!, The Sound and the Fury, and Light In August. It seems like all three of those novels are above the average housewife's reading level. Maybe I'm wrong and they caused American housewives to learn about a subject that improved their existence. I want to see Oprah recommend "House of Leaves" By Danielewski!

A few years back when she was doing the original book club I did buy the books for awhile. But then I read one I did not like and stopped spending money on books I was not sure I was going to like. I just checked my bookshelf - wow! I read at least 9 of them - House of Sand and Fog, Where the Heart Is, The Bluest Eye, The Pilot's Wife, White Oleander and more. I'm not about to join her online club and try and get a book read in a certain period of time so I don't see any reason in rushing out and spending TOP DOLLAR on a book that will be on the sale racks 6 months from now... or in the library.

I have read some of Oprah's picks... and eventually I get around to reading them... but I don't rush out to buy a book just because she said it was good. It has to sound interesting to me.
