Accepting Gifts Graciously

I recently bought a friend a gift and when they opened it they stated, "I don't like it, I would never use it". I was shocked that they would so unappreciative. She explained to me that she felt it more appropriate to tell me that it was something she wouldn't use and save me money rather than take something she would never use and would collect dust. Which response do you think is more appropriate?

I think your friend lacks class. She was most ungracious and unkind. It was not appropriate to tell you in that manner that she would never use your gift. She had options: a) to thank you very nicely and leave it at that b) to thank you and sell the gift at the next garage sale c) to thank you and donate the item to her church rummage sale d) to thank you and phone you in couple of days and ask if it could be exchanged to something she really needed. e) to thank you and give it to someone else as a gift, (haha just joking)

Thank you for responding. I tend to agree with you. Sometimes its all in the presentation.
