" Responding to growing international concerns about tainted food and counterfeit drugs, China said late Tuesday that it was overhauling its food and drug safety regulations and would introduce nationwide inspections." This is the latest announcement from China in it's response the the problems it has had recently with contaminated food products, counterfeit glycerine, etc. Now we have to wait and see if they will actually be able to achieve their goal when their government is based on bribes and corruption and they have no real safety system in place. China's goals include: " by 2010 to place new controls on food and drug imports and exports and to step up random testing on medicines. It also said that it would have information on inspections of 90 percent of all food products" "safety checks on a large majority of food makers and said that regulators would crack down on the sale of counterfeit drugs and medical devices" "after five years a goal was that “100 percent of the significant food safety accidents are investigated and dealt with” and that “80 percent of the food that needs to be recalled is recalled" Here is a link to the full story - http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/07/business/worldbusiness/07safety.html?th&emc=th Considering the fact, that right now, China does not even have a food or drug recall system; they have a LOT of work to do. However, until they do make the changes, we still have to condider things from China that are for consumption by humans or pets as being potentially hazardous.

Wow! That's quite a mountain for China to climb. I hope they achieve their goals.

Potentially, nothing. If it would not cause a world wide economic depression, I'd be calling for an embargo of all food from China at this point. Now if some smaller nation had pulled this, they'd be declaring bankrupcy to the World Bank already...
