Do you realize if you purchase an R rated movie from Walmart it beeps after being scanned and they ask you if you're over 18? I think this is great. I wish movie stores did. My son was able to purchase us a Rated R movie two Christmas ago and he was only 11 at the time. What do you think about stores asking teens for ID when they rent R rated movies? Good idea or bad?

this is really a good idea. these outlets will better be responsible too, as to who they are dealing with accordingly. walmart i would say, is a store with a conscience to have even thought and come up with a scheme like this one. a good thing for other stores to follow suit.

I too thought it was a great idea. They allowed my daughter to purchase it because I was with her and she was getting it for my hubby.

I think that it is a great idea....it would help the parents to better monitor what their children are watching...when my grown children were younger...they frequently had friends stay over...they would run down to the video store on their bikes and rent under their father and I's account....this store had asked our preferences regarding renting to our childrenon the account....I thought that it was such a wonderful idea...and still do.... I would be furious if my 11 yr. old came home with a "R" rated movie......

I do not know if they do that here at the Movie rental/stores or not as I've never been in when a kid was there alone. But I do know that many movie theatres here in Minnesota do ask for ID from kids for the movies rated R etc. So maybe the stores here ask also. Im just not sure. HahA! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Wow-- I didn't know that- I must look over 18-- lol- I'm 34- I think it is a great idea- Wal-Mart is pretty good at starting things up- Maybe the other stores will follow- I don't think you can rent an R rated movie at my local Blockbuster- I know the other place in town you cannot- When you sign up you have to say who can use the card and what ratings they can rent- So my daughter who is 10 could not rent anything over PG at the time- I'd let her rent PG13 now- but we don't frequent that rental place- At Blockbuster- they make sure that I'm in the store before they let her take any movie out- They all know us pretty well--

the answer depends on who is buying... if someone under 18 buys rated r movies, i would say, it is a good idea. children at that age are stubborn to do what they can't that adults are free to do. furthermore, most of them doesn't really have a critical mind to decide whether what they are watching are good for them or not... they too are gullible to follow and do what is already too familiar in their environment. if they keep on buying those kind of stuff, sooner they would be following what they've been watching... as for the adults, hmmm... i personally don't like to give other people an idea that im buying what. the beep on the exit is the last thing i would need in buying such kind of material...
