Are You Afraid Of Storms?

There is a big storm on its way. It should be here within the next hour or so. My friend just called me a few minutes ago to let me know that it is close to her house now, and will be on my way once it passes her. She always gets these storms a little before we do, and she often is freaked out by them. This time I checked out the weather report, as she always has me do, and it looks worse than most of the ones she warns me about. She says there have already been two tornadoes that have touched down near her. The thunder and lightning are hitting hard there and have already started here. The weather is calling for 70 plus, mile per hour winds. There have already been two electric lines knocked down nearby, starting two fires. Several trees have already been knocked down. I normally love thunderstorms, but not ones that tend to be destructive like this one seems to be. I am sure that most of you would not want to be caught up in a major storm, but how do you feel about storms in general.

I hope you are fine, kelly, and that the storm has passed. I like storms, but not real big ones. We dont seem to get them here like you do. We dont get tornados, luckily. I think i would be scarred of them. We have had some bad weather here in Australia recently, with a lot of flooding. It has been terrible. Best wishes to you, kelly

The storms have passed and the weather is doing much better now. I hope things are ok for you after the bad weather and flooding.

Oh my god yes!!! I'm such a baby when it comes to storms. First of all, up here in Boston we don't get those crazy hurricanes like the tropics, but we do get snow blizzards and just plain thunder storms. I'm such a baby when it comes to Thunder and Lightning. I think the world is coming to an end at any minute. Ha ha ha... I can't believe it, instead of making it better for my two daughters, I think my fear makes it worse for them. I just can't help it, I get sooo scared it's not even funny.

The storms don't really bother me too much, I mostly worry about my friend because I know that she gets scared of the storms. She lives in a trailer park and always worries because of all of the trees there and that her trailer might not be as sturdy as most homes.

I'm not afraid of it in terms of just the storm itself, but more of the destruction that it is capable of doing. Maybe as a child, the thunder or the lighting is already scary as it is, but as I grew older and became aware of what could happen during storms, it is more nerve-wracking than before. The strong gush of wnd is the scariest part for me, whenever I hear the wind blowing real hard that tends to make the rain slam harder in the windows, that is scary.

I love the sound of the rain on the roof, but I don't care for the rain slamming it into the house too hard. It is the wind more than anything else that bothers me though.

We used to have storms like that back in Alabama. Even though there are no tornadoes or hurricanes here bad weather still freaks me out badly. For some reason even heavy rain scares me a bit. I think it might be because I've lived thru some flooding.

Flooding can be scary too, but I have only had to deal with that a few times. The rain doesn't bother me but the winds do.

I guess I might be, if I am in your country. :P Here in Singapore, the worst "storms" we get would likely be like a drizzle to you. We don't need to run or hide in bunkers. We can just go about our business with a friendly brolly. :P

That sounds like a drizzle. We get those quite often. When we get the bad storms, we get very strong winds along with the rain, lightning and thunder.

I'm afraid of storms especially when I am outside. I hope I can stay with my bf or my parents in those bad days, then I will have a good sleep although there is a storm outside. I remembered a heavy flood in my hometown when I was 16 years old. Lots of citizens bought biscuits, breads and bottles of water to home, because there is no electic and water at all. We were in danger, I thought. I'm afraid of flood very much since then.

I don't like to be outside in these storms either. I remember being caught in a thunderstorm on our way canoing down the river one time. We had to get off the river because we were afraid of being struck by lightning. We all sat in the edge of the woods near the river for nearly an hour until it was over before we could continue our trip.

I do normally like storms and we need to be prepared for them this year and for years to come. The environment is changing and with good insurance we can manage to thrive despite any hardships. The power of the storm is what is awesome. Too bad we cannot harness that power. Since I lost everything recently it would not be any big deal since I don't expect to keep anything anymore. Life changes and we must learn to roll with the punches.

I have always loved watching storms, as long as they don't pose any danger. It is those that threaten us that can be scary. I know what you mean about losing everything. Although it has been years, I have also had to start over and even though it isn't easy, I know that it can be done. You are right, it would be great to be able to harness all that power.

I am not really afraid of storms unless there is a tornado.I live in kansas and we get a lot of storms in the summer time,so you got to watch the news to make sure it's not a tornado.we been having 50 to 60 miles per hour winds here the last 2 days I cant wait untill it stops, everything been so dusty . I wish it would rain some, maybe that will slow the wind up some. stay safe.

I'm glad that we don't have tornadoes often here. We have them occasionally and I would be afraid to be in one of those.

If I know they aren't going to last more than an hour or so, its not a big deal. We had some rough stuff last summer that left behind some roof damage and while it was going on, it sounded like the whole house was going to blow out from the wind.

Those types of storms worry me. I had a friend who lost a large piece of her roof to a storm once. We were all inside listening to the storm and wondering what would go next.

I am terrified of storms, not rain...but bad wind, and lightning and thunder. It scares me big time. My finace always laughs at me..but its not that uncommon for a home to get struck by lightning.

Like I tell the kids, just stay off of the phone and the computer. Other than that, for the most part I don't think that you have too much to worry about. Your home should be grounded, which will help to protect you from electrical shock.

I've never been crazy about electrical storms, but one was so bad that lightening struck the tree in front of my house and killed it along with my television set and a computer. Thankfully, no other damage happened and no one was hurt, but now I am so very careful when we have an electrical storm.

One time the lightning struck my brother's CB antenna next door and sent a charge through the three houses in a row. We lost our answering machine and the computer modem, and I'm not sure what the others lost.

I'm like you, I like a good thunderstorm. But, not the destructive kind. We had storm warnings all day and only got a little rain. And, we really need rain. Now they've called off all the storm warnings, but it has cooled way down.

A good rain on a hot day can be a wonderful thing. I especially enjoy it if it has been dry. A little thunder and lightning thrown in doesn't hurt as long as it doesn't damage anything.

My friend does too, she is terrified of storms. Imagine having to live in a trailer park knowing that something like this is coming, when you are terrified of storms.

It is the high winds more than the lightning and thunder that I worry about here. Usually it is the winds that do the damage.

First of all, I hope you and your friend remain safe throughout this rough weather. If its the same storm system that went through Iowa earlier, then it could be quite strong. They are heading for New York and expected to be here around 3pm. I hope by then that they have weakened because I hate storms. I go around shutting windows and curtains. I won't talk on the phone or be on the computer.Heck, I won't even go to the bathroom.lol. My boyfriend, on the other hand, loves storms and he would be outside through it if I wasn't screaming at him to come in.lol.

My boys sat out in the truck and watched the storm coming until it got close, then made a dash for the house. It was loud, and there was quite a light show, but wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I love storms--just as long as they are not hurricanes or tornadoes. Hope you and your friend are safe but be sure to prepare for the storm. Johnna www.blogcharm.com/Colorsofink

Even though we always try to be prepared, sometimes situations come up that are completely unexpected.

I am scared of storms. I dont know if a tornado is considered a storm but i have seen a real tornado close up. I still remember that day it passed me of course i was some feet away from it. But i can still imagine that day. It was not a major hurricane glad it did not break any houses or a person did not get cought in one.

I have not been quite that close to a tornado, but one went through a nearby town and wiped out much of it. It was a terrible thing. I would not want to be caught in one.
