CFCs or Chloro-Flouro-Carbons have been phased out, even in India. All new refrigerators and airconditioners have HC or hydrocarbons which are much less damaging to the environment and especially to the ozone layer. Even repairs to old fridges are done with HC and not with CFC, as the government has phased out CFCs and this is true of many other countries as well. Fortunately for CFCs there are good substitutes. Unfortunately for fossil fuels (carbon, petrol, diesel, etc) we do not have economically viable alternatives. But hope is on the horizon, with solar cells becoming cheaper by the day. In california, it is cheaper to produce solar electricity than to buy it from the electricity producing company. More power to the sun! And hopefully, we will save humankind from global warming!
