what do you do in horribly crowded places?

crowd - crowd of people on the streets

I try to avoid crowds as far as possible because facing large crowds makes me feel dizzy. However, sometimes it's inevitable. for instance, going to work during peak hour, getting off work at peak hour. train stations are packed with people. It's not so bad if you are flowing in the direction of the crowd. but if you have to wait at a crowded train station whilst the crowd swells around you, how do you deal with it?do you close your eyes? or do you focus on one object and try to shut out the rest of the swirling people? or does it not affect you at all and you can just people watch to pass the time?

I hate crowded places too. It's very uncomfortable jostling with a lot of people. I used to have this dilemma when the house that I rented house was a little far from my work place. I had to take the train as it is the fastest form of transportation going to work. And the most crowded too. I take pains to be at the station early but there are times that I run late and I had to contend myself with the long line and rushing crowd to get on the train ahead of the others. It is not advisable to stand by idly and wait for the crowd to thin as you might as well be absent from work. What I did was to go with the flow of the crowd. Until I got really fed up and moved to a place nearer where I work, LOL!

yup it's worth it to move somewhere near work, even though it's usually more expensive. the grief reduced from travelling is great.

I hate to be at crowded places because when every i stuck in some crowded road it take hours of waiting to get to your destination even if its not so far so i always try not to be in crowded places rather a little long drive but not so filled with cars and trucks :)

egad! i couldnt imagine trying to "wade" thru that many ppl! we dont have train stations where i live so thankfully i dont have to deal with that! when im in a crowded place and am managing to NOT panic then i usually end up paying a lot of attention to what im holding or the shopping cart, or get very intent on just trying to find what im looking for and getting out as soon as possible! you should have seen how bad i was sweating the last time i had to go to the airport! so much so that the security kept looking at me kind of funny and then did a "random" check on my bag.

i know! somehow i seem to have a radar for checks too. perhaps its the loads of shopping i have from the airport - last minute souvenirs usually, but they still want to check me though I look nothing like your usual terrorist! i hate crowded airports. it's tough enough trying to catch your flight, without having to fight trolleys and folks.

Oh I hate crowded places too. Try going to Orchard nowadays, I don't know where these people appear from. Orchard last time was crowded enough, now it is worse. I just push my way through crowds and do what I went there to do. It's like, I can't do anything about those people anyway. So I just try to ignore them and go about my own business.

my friend was just saying that there are ang mohs popping out of the woodwork! either our tourism agency is doing a great job, or these people are just the result of foreign talent! lots of folks from other countries too! if i can find that shop NOT on orchard, I'd be not on orchard. (:

Large crowds can't affect me at all, maybe on my way home from office, facing this condition,I usually stand still, waiting at a certain place with earphones in my ears , listening to the music quietly ,watching strangers coming and going ...You can clear your mind and pure your heart. I like doing this.

i live in a very crowded city. the fastest way to get somewhere is by subway, which is the most crowded one too, because the traffic here is infernal; but even if it is the most crowded, it`s the best option i have to get to school in time, so i rather take the subway and travel with all the people, instead of riding by car and spending hours stuck in traffic! but what irrtates me most is wathing all those people not caring for anyone else but themselves, quickening for a seat like they would spend the rest of their lives standing! and their indifference - they all got used to the traffic, the noise, the heat in the buses.. nobody cares anymore!

I ran away from home when I was 13. I joined a carnival. I also worked for a circus as a child for a few years. I am very used to being in crowds so they don't bother me in the least. I feel very comfortable around a multitude of people. I actually prefer to be in a crowd. I can sit and people watch for hours at any crowded venue. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I'm pretty short, only 5 feet tall, so crowds can be very overwhelming for me. What I hate about it is the people just don't even know you are there so they can just hit, kick or elbow you. It's just so overwhleming. I try my best to avoid these situations, but if I do my myself stuck in a big crowd, I try to make may way to the edge, this way I feel like I have more of an out if I need it. If that's not possible then I just try to be very alert to make sure people know I am there and that I won't get hurt.

I avoid crowds like the plague. If I'm caught up in a large crowd, I suffer from panic attacks. I just cannot handle it at all. I'm not sure how or why it started either. I will literally walk across the street to avoid a large crowd of people walking towards me. I remove myself from any situation where I have to deal with large crowds. My partner and I have to go grocery shopping on a weekend, and we've actually gone at different times each weekend to figure out when it's quietest.

wow it sounds serious for you. Do take care! for me here, there's no quiet time during the weekend cos it's not a 24 hr supermart so there are people there during all the opening hours. I try to go after work on weekdays when it's still crowded but not half as bad. sometimes, we go together and one just starts queuing first whilst the other goes to get the food. by the time one is done, it's just nice to be at the front of the queue!

I absolutely hate being in crowded places. I too do everything to avoid this. I usually totally go out of my way to avoid it so it never really happens to me that I get stuck this way. However, when I do, I tend to focus on something else. That usually helps. cheers,

I have panic attacks if I go into big crowds, as well as getting claustophobic, so I tried to avoid them at all costs, rush hour I try to avoid by working night shifts instead so I avoid the main times when there are crowds. I have found, however that having music on my Ipod helps a lot with calming me down, it works for me, a friend suggested it to me, I tried it and it worked.

crowded places could be a real pain in the neck. well i usually travel in busses its more hectic than a train You have to jump in and out of a moving bus that's already crowded. Today itself i faced a problem. boarding was not a problem real problem started when the crowed started pouring in i had to stand leaning holding the support bar my hands started paining as i was in an uncomfortable position so i adjusted my self wid very little space

I cannot stand crowded places. I feel very uncomfortable being so close to so many people. I do feel claustrophobic and it begins to irritate me and puts me in a bad mood. So, I try to stay away from those situations all together, but unfortunately it is inevitable and you can't always avoid them altogether. So I just take a deep breath and deal with it.

Yes I agree with you. Same happens with me in crowded places. I use to avoid and escape from over crowded places.I feel danger in over crowded places and feel peace when I come in alone position.

i absolutely hate crowded places. the main reason why i hate them is because a lot of singaporeans do not understand the concept of personal space. when i go overseas, i have no problem with crowded places as they don't jab you with their bags or lean on you. i am quite unlucky when taking public transport coz i've had the experience of being jabbed in the head by someone's elbow, sat on by a big sized guy (as in literally sat on me!), leaned on by fellow passengers etc. if i'm waiting at a crowded place for someone, i try to squeeze myself into one little corner and let my mind wonder away. and if i wait for more than 15min, i'll contact the person and try to arrange to meet somewhere else coz i really can't stant being 'trapped' in a crowded place.
