I've been offered to travel to England for 4 weeks. But the thing is, it's to expensive. It costs u$d 4600 ($12000 pesos). My dad says that it's a huge opportunity, but I know that he doesnt really have the money, and he will probably have to ask for a loan. So the dilemma is: should I accept and visit London and learn lots of new stuff? or should I decline and give my dad a break?.

I would take a rain check on that and leave it till later for a degree course or similar. At 16 you will have to be supervised quite a bit, naturally, and so it will cramp your style and you won't get so much out of the visit. In 5 years time, a $1,000 ticket will get you here and back and you may well get a study grant to do a course here - there are SO many to choose from. and at 21 you could have a lot of fun here with other poor students 'all in the same boat'. My son and daughter went on school trips in Europe and Russia and they were a great education for them but would be the equivalent of you going to Uraguay or Chile or Brazil.

Sorry, I don't really get it. If this is an offer, why do you still have to pay us$4600 that much. Personally I don't think it is worth of going. Because you can go in a shorter term like 7 or 10 days on your own, which will cost you less. In the mean time, you still can learn lots of new stuff. This is only for our reference.

I guess it depends if getting into loans and possible debt is worth the trip? England is quite lovely (so I've heard!) and I'm sure you'll enjoy it so much, I for one love Europe. But if you're going to be paying off this loan for a significant amount of time then maybe you should reconsider it or save up and wait for a better time. But if the loan isn't too big, and you know you or you dad can pay it off easily than go for it! Europe is so gorgeous, last year I was in Switzerland, Austria, Italy and Germany and I could gush about those places for an eternity!

Well, what's the trip for? Is it educational? Will you study abroad? Or are you just going to go and be a tourist? You shouldn't put your family in debt just to tour another country, but if it wil be beneficial then you have to calculate the cost. Is there anyway you could take out the loan instead of him?

I'll be studying for 4 weeks in Oxford. Its a special program from my school to give students the possibility to travel so they arrange this trips and gather a bunch of people to get discounts and all that stuff... That's why it's an offer.

It sounds like an amazing opportunity...just living in a country different than your own for a while will have an impact on the rest of your life! Maybe you would be able to pay your dad back after the trip or at least help him with the bills from the loan. I would try to compromise and see what the best thing to do is. It does sound like fun though! Good Luck! :)
