Have you ever dialed a wrong number out of old habit?

I just dialed my grandad's house, or so I thought.
The last 4 digits of my grandad's number were the same for over 20 years. Before his wife died, he had his phone disconnected and only used her phone and his cell (separate phones since they had separate, long-time businesses when they first got together). For at least 5 years or more, his regular phone number has been disconnected and reassigned.
I just dialed that number out of old habit and the woman who answered the phone thought I was her husband's girlfriend. It was awful. I tried to explain, but she called me a few choice words and some other woman's name (must not have caller ID or she would have known my name).
I said to heck with it and hung up, feeling like a jackass for dialing the wrong number to begin with, and she called me back! (anyone can use *69 for a fee)
No big deal, I simply told her that I'm sorry her life is upside down, but I simply made a mistake and dialed an old phone number. No "I'm sorry I cussed you out" or anything. She just hung up. ...well, good riddance.
AH! This did happen to me once before when I mixed up the digits for A-Wong's take-out. But that was years ago...my kid is reading over my shoulder and just reminded me of that, lol.
Anyway, has anything weird like this ever happened to you?

yes, when I was trying to get used to my new phone number. I would be out and call my old number trying to call hubby or forget and catch myself trying to give the old number instead of the new one...and now hes the one trying to get used to the new number, lol, he asked me the other day, now whats our phone number? lol

Whenever we change phone numbers, I always ask the customer service person for an easy one.
Once we had the same last digits as our prefix with a zero in front of it, another time they gave us the same last digits as our area code, with a zero in front of it.
Once it was 1234, lol, and this time its still consecutive digits, but the same as the last digits of my dad's cell.
Anyone on dad's side of the family has no need in writing down my number now, lol...plus it makes it easy for our grown kids that are out of the house to remember as well.
No more problems with "what's the new number" since I began asking for easy numbers, lol.

Wow - how bizzarre! Obviously she has a little bit of turmoil in her life?! That was probably more than you wanted to know about what's going on in her life. I can't believe she called you back!
I accidently dialed a friends number one time when I needed to make an appointment to get my hair cut. Apparently I didn't even listen to the answering machine message and left my message. My friend called me back laughing about it. I was a little embarrassed, but that's about the worst I can think of that's happened to me?

yeah, that was pretty bizzare, and normally, I would have bitten back, but the feeling of pity came over me and I let it go.
lol, about your phone error. At least your friend got a laugh out of it. That's the kind of embarrassment I can take.
I still feel badly for that woman tho, thank God I didn't marry a cheater!

Yeah, I always did that too. It is getting worse when I call an old number that my friend changed without telling me about it.

How rude and how jealous I nmust say. But may be she is too troubled and upset.I am no one to pass judgement sitting miles away. On second thoughts how terrible it must be to live like that inm so much uncertainity that you can not even trust a simple wrong number. I think that women needs a lot of help and may be some self esteem too. I wish she is able to get both and start a fresh life.

I felt to sorry for that woman to get nasty about it. Normally when someone gives me attitude I give it right back...but I'm working on that (shhh, don't tell anyone, lol).
I can feel your pain, on dialing the wrong family member, too, lol. My mom can keep a person on the phone for an hour and a half and have absolutely nothing meaningful to say at all, God love her little heart.
Good to see you, thanks for popping in...btw, if I haven't mentioned it, I dig the new avatar. Very cute.
