Does Paris Hilton really matter?

Really, why do we even care about what is happening with Paris Hilton? She is just some rich girl who was on a television show which made fun of middle America, and exploited a private tape of herself to become famous. As a society, what does it say about us that we are enthralled with such a person, who has done nothing of importance, and yet demands so much of our time, whether we turn on the news, or read entertainment magazines? If Paris Hilton goes to Jail, or gets out of jail, why do we have to be watching. On TV I saw some celebrities being asked what they thought about Ms. Hilton, I think concerning her jail sentence. Oprah said, "I don't spend my time thinking about Paris." Isn't it about time we as a society say the same thing. If you support her or look up to her, please explain why you do. And if you don't, then please explain why we have devoted so much time watching this pseudo-celebrity.
