Polk...How do you freeze it?

United States

I have polk taking over my flower bed and smothering out my flowers. I need to get it out but my Grandmother LOVES it and I am not going to visit her for another month. She said there is a way to freeze it but you must do something to it first. But she didn't know what to do. Does anyone here know?? Or lead me a website that will tell me? I searched and I couldn't find anything to help me. All advice will be appreciated.

OKAY. Just one more question. Do I need to pull the leaves off before I cook it?

Ahh! I wondered that but I did find somethings that came up with the other spelling so I thought I had it right. I didn't find what I needed on those sites but I did find something on another one. Do you know how to blanch? It said it needs lightly blanching before freezing.

Blanching involves a brief time in boiling water. http://www.motherearthnews.com/print-article.aspx?id=63860 Read this from Mother Earth News a magazine I thoroughly enjoy and trust. That should help you and give you all you need to know. Thanks for responding to me and allowing me to help!!

Thanks! I don't know how she likes it cooked though. It's been such a long time since I've been at her house when she's had it.
