Would you dare to have a venomous snake as a pet?

I'm afraid of snake but I love to have one as a pet. I bought a pet snake 2 months ago to overcome my fear of them. It turns out I bought a mildly venomous snake, boiga cynodon or commonly known as dog-toothed cat snake. I haven't been able to handle(touch) him without gloves yet but I can now clean his vivarium no longer afraid that he might bite my hand. I've learned that snakes are actually shy creatures. If you don't provoke them and just be patient then You will be successful in overcoming your fear of snakes. Anybody out there who experienced the same thing?

Way to go! I would never do that. I will just stay scared of snakes. I will not have one in my home. Even if i stopped beeing scared of them I still think they are ugly and yuck. I will just run if i see one i guess.

i agree with you, teison. it is better to be afraid of snakes. staying away from them will surely be the best formula to keep ourselves from harm due to snake bites. moreso, when the snakes are venomous ones.

i haven't had a venomous snake as a pet of my own. i used to play with some small venomous snakes before which belonged to someone else. snakes will never attack man if not provoked. instinctively, they know that man is not food for them. if we want them to play with us, we will just hold our hand out and then the snake will come and get onto our hand. if we want to put them down, we have to do so slowly. they must never feel any tension or fear from us.

I'm not familiar with that species. But for most people venomous snakes are not good pet choices. Yes they are basically shy, but they're also unpredictable. A dog will usually growl at you before they bite, a snake is just going to strike. If you have a non-venomous snake, that's not such a big deal but a venomous snake bite is going to be pretty serious even if it's a 'less' venomous snake.
