Our dog howls like a siren!

This is so funny. Our dog, Shadow can howl just like a fire truck. He stays outside most of the time and everytime we hear a siren, he starts making the exact some sound. We have had him for over 5 years and still laugh when he does this. Often he will hear the siren before we do and when we hear him start this siren sound, we know we will soon be hearing one. We live only a couple blocks from the fire station, so it happens a bunch and is so funny everytime. Does your pets do anything funny like this?

My father lives right across the street from a fire station and I think most dogs howl like that. Everytime a fire truck starts down the street, you would think a truck load of cats had been released at the same time. Both of the neighbors have dogs and it seems to be a party. I think it has something to do with the pitch of the siren or something, but it is interesting.

Just about every dog I ever had howled not only at the fire truck but any siren and the train whisles. I was told one time it's because the sound hurt their ears, but I don't know whether that is true or not.

Oh I understand the howling all too well as I own a Beagle, Buster, that howls everytime he smells something in the air. I've had the police over a couple times only so the neighbors seem content that he is all right with his howling at the air. We watch his nose wiggle straight up in the air then he starts his howling like a mad dog in heat or something. We only have to say, "where's the puppy?" and he starts howling also. He is funny.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

hehe..
That would be cute and funny to hear!
I once heard a dog that sounded like a cat, the owner wasn't very chuffed about it and I think part of the reason the dog did it was because she choked him on the lead.
Kudos,

My Lab/pit mix howls at sirens and smoke alarms going off. I don't think it's funny cause he's saying it's hurting his ears when they go off. Dogs have alot better hearing than we do so anything high-pitched hurts.

No, I don't have a pet that does anything funny like that. But that is really funny the way he howls like a siren. Living near a fire station, he must be doing that on a daily basis.

How comical.....I bet he is a sight....
My horse whinnies at me every time I walk out of the front door...letting me know that she wants some attention...she is so spoiled....She is an 11 yr. old quarter horse...
She is particular about who she does this to...so I always laugh when it happens....I find it hilarious....
I added a photo of her so you can see my big dog of a horse, my friend......

I used to drive a horse and carriage in Chicago and my carriage horse always greeted me with a nicker. If I didn't answer her, she would start pitching a fit whinnying up a storm. Never did that to anyone but me. Too funny.

I know several dogs who just howl at the sound of a siren. Somewhen I had the idea as there is evolution and there is an animal in each of us that the inventor of the siren unconciously mocked this alarming sound of the wolves and dogs as an alarm signal for humans and bingo, most dogs react to it as if the siren is the leading wolf.

oh how cute is that?!!!! oh i'm laughing just imagining that! he must have just picked it up since you guys live so close, that is too funny! i had a pet turtle who only ate the purple pellets out of his food pellets. they were all kinds of colors. he ate the purple ones first, then the red, then MAYBE the orange, and hated the greens and yellows...i mean c'mon, picky turtle? hahaha. he had other crazy quirks, which seemed weird him being a reptile and all! i loved him!!

None of my pets now have any interesting tricks...but one of my past dogs did. I play the harmonica on a regular basis. Whenever I used to play the harmonica around him he would howl to the rooftops. It must be the noise or something which makes them go off like that. :)
cheers,
