First of all I think it’s essential to get an academic qualification or professional qualification in order to apply job later on. Though we have the qualifications we still find difficult to begin work because we have no experience in the work. As time goes on we can gradually gather experience and will then become skillful and efficient consequently. This shows how important experience is. But with experience alone is not enough. If we don’t have qualification or diploma we will be lowly grated and couldn’t get a well pay. So if we could get a degree it’s better still. So I suggest that a diploma holder shouldn’t be too choosy at the beginning. He should do what ever job available and in the meanwhile he can gain experience for the future use. If we got diploma plus experience we can then have better chances of getting a good job.

yeah,in this world,so many companies give your pay base on your diploma. In our country,a normal graduate's pay about 2000yuans every month, and have the master degree's students will have about 3000-4000yuans every months. So i think the work experience is developing based on the diploma. what do you think of? Thanks for your response:)

Hi fengbo, I’m glad as you had provided so much information about the payments of those graduate and master degree holders. For your information I would like to say that the respective payments of those holders mentioned are very much higher in my country as the standard and cost of living here are generally much higher here. From your data given I hope that you could aim higher to get a master degree so as to get a better pay if situation allowed lol. If you couldn’t get it, fengbo, be contented with what you get and try to live the fullest of life. fengbo, don’t be shy to share with us any problems you come across.:D Best wishes and happy postings!

Hi lkbooi, the data of that payment is only a standard,in our country so many graduate cannot earn that money in barely graduation student. Like your wish,i very like to acquire master degree, but my english is so poor, when i was studying in high school,i don't learn well, the english is always the worst course in my all course. If my english is well,i will go the best university, also i wants to acquire master degree.Unfortunately,my english very bad.so that i don't have enough belief to acquire master degree. But i will take my best hard to do my work,i think when i have skill,i also have a good pay. Thanks for your response. The best wishes to you.

i do agree that experience is more important because it teaches you facts and figures or a practical way of things happening but learning is also improtant factor if you have a base you will be more sucessful if you do get practical experience also

This depends on the people you wish to work for. When I applied for a job as a Family Support Worker, I was told that the lofe experience and 10 years work experience in a similar role were not what the people were looking for, they wanted someone with a degree even if they had no experience.

Hi, I am in the Telecom software industry for seven years now. I was selected from my campus itself for my job. But I have seen that in any of the companies, experience values a lot. The hands on experience and knowledge about teh real scenario is always more valuable than the degree since from college, we are not exposed much to teh real world.

A lot of jobs also allow you to use work experience to substitute the lack of a diploma. For example... if the job is asking for a 4 year degree plus 3 years of experience, if you've worked in the field for 7 years or more you won't need a degree at all. I think it's true that experience is more important. Just because you have a diploma saying you can do this job doesn't mean you KNOW HOW to do the job, experience shows that.

Not necessarily that the work experience would always be given a preference, but, in most of the cases companies do that. It is all about their needs and expectations. The positions they want to fill up matters. It may be suitable for a fresher with a great marks and communication skill or the position may require a highly skilled & experienced person who would be able to fullfill the output expectancies without much training. As, todays world is going to be much much competitive than ever, every company is seeking for experienced professionals and giving them priority, but, the job position may also require a more energetic young fresher with no experience.

It will depend on what kind of experience you have had. If your experience is all about typing or having routine tasks, for instance, it will not give much great contributions. However, if your experience is about learning leadership qualities and/or managing other business skills, it will definitely give more points than fresh graduate job seekers without any work experience whatsoever. Some jobs such as computer programming may not be necessary to have great experience because skills that are needed will depend on what kind of new programming stuffs that someone has grasped so far. The newer programming stuffs someone has the more sophisticated technology someone can create, right? I am not a firm believer that the more experience someone has, the better he can do his job. Because it will also depend on the number of factors such as attitude, intelligence, personality, and other soft and hard skills. Someone who has had great working experience, for instance, but he is difficult to be managed may not give significant contributions to the company. In fact, it will create more problems in the end because most people who are working at the office may not able to handle him. OR someone who has great working experience but he can't grasp things easily, it will also create problems. But generally speaking, the more experience someone has, the more contributions he will be able to make. But as mentioned previously, there are also number of factors that need to be considered. So, it is not a clear cut solution, though.

Experience is really more important than diploma but in the Philippines they look at neither of both...they look at hows your potential of not getting caught...one huge example of this is the the that countrys' infrastructures...it suck and dirty...and nobody is getting caught or responsible for it becasue the people bihind neither have both or if ever they have both it is of extremely low quality and what these people have are well developed skills of not getting caught.

Well....I think both are important. You can't easily get a job without diploma, or you have diploma but you can't have the job because you have no experience. And we have to start somewhere. In my own personal experience, go finish your study to the minimum diploma requirement to get a decent job, then find a part time job (so you'll have flexible time to combine with study) and at the same time....go continue to next higher education. When you finally really finish your education, you'll have better diploma and also job experience. So you can apply to next job for a full time, for a better position, better chance, and better salaries... How about that ?!?

A lot of jobs now are performance centered that is why they look for people with work experience. These are jobs weary of people who have fragrant diplomas but have bad work ethics or poor at application but good in theory. If you come to think of it diplomas now a days are good for jobs that offer a real career that is if you want to stay long in a company. But company's that are looking for bulk employment that means people come and go in the company as they please have to look for people who can manage themselves or would need little or no supervision companies that dont want to spend much on training. It was indeed unfair for people without diplomas before but now we have the advantage. Flexibility is now the name of the game but we must all be aware that these jobs dont really offer stability because of the high demand they give for their workforce like in callcenters. Its financially rewarding but emotionally and mentally draining. But for real stable and career type jobs diplomas are still a must and we must struggle to atleast attain it within the next few years if we want our lives to improve.

Hi nielcdg. You are right,i absolutely agree with you. Please allow me asked to you, what jod do you have? I think you have so many experience in many things, like your say so many graduates are poor at application but good in theory. They know how to do it in theoty, but they don't know how to do at application. I think in university the teacher must ours intensify application ability. It's very well to students.so what do you think of?

Work experienc is very important in Job seeking because without these two things, it's very to find a better job. Diploma is just like a passport for you to move on to the next level of your career. Work experiences are the experiences that can sharpen you and can refreh you on what you had studied. Both are important. You maybe have diploma but no work experience vice versa, the company will not hire you. Anyway, experience is the best teacher of all but still it's better to have a diploma and good job experience, easier to find a job, plus points i mean..

In my experience, fresh graduate with diploma often sell themselves too high (ask for high salary) when they do not know what to offer the company. What company know is that you are fresh out of the oven with nothing to offer except your GPA. To make thing worse, those who has one or two years of experience w/o a diploma sell themselves about the same price as the fresh graduate. Now, if you are the recuiter, who will you choose? I personally will see my cards, if I need fast ROI (return on investment) I will choose experience than diploma. If I ROI is not the issue, I will choose diploma than experience. But all go back to what field you are recruiting for. The best is someone with experience and getting their diploma soon. :)

Here it seems that the diploma is still much more important. When you look at the job recruit, you will understand that their first and basic requirement is that you have at least BA degree. Although working experience is also very important, but it listed at the end. I love China

Experience is definitely more valuable than a diploma. I graduated college last year and even though I have a good degree, non degreed applicants always get the job before I do, provided they have had experience in the field. It's definitely frustrating, kind of a double-edged sword, the better education you have the more money you deserve, yet no one wants to pay better money for less or no experience. It seems a little unfair at best.

yes,I also thinked this was unfair,we spend so much money in university, but at last we cannot find a good job. Thanks for your response.

if you have a diploma you have more knowledge of the subject but if you do work experience in a constructive business you will have a much better perspective of the field.

So i thinked how did you add your work experience, that you have the diploma and also have the work experience. In the university, stuents can made some plurality or society practice. It's a good way to add your work experience. In this society, the diploma and work experience are all important,if you lack of either one you will very hard in this world.what do you think of? Thanks for you response.

from my experience, the diploma/degree is the least requirement in finding job. You will get higher chance to secure a job if you have working experiences! So, try to gain some related working experiences before you apply for that job!

do not run behind academic degrees. work experience will add more value to you diploma. more the higher education, less the job opportunities. work experience will give you confidence to handle the job with less guidance /training on job. the mind set of the companies also changed over a period of time. below 20 is the best age to mould the attitude and behaviour of the person. present so called degree holders do not have discipline and sincerearity. so the age factor also plays a role in employment.
