June 9, 2007 8:27pm CST
A MYSTERY man has made a `Credible` Phone call to police saying he knows the whereabouts of missing girl Madeleine McCann. The Called said he wanted to speak to Gerry and Kate McCann,, Who put the Europe-wide search for their lost daughter on hold yesterday after being told of the call.# The Spanish police source said "This did not appear to be a crank call, the information was felt credible enough to warrant the couple being informed immediately" The Man made the call with an unregistered pay-as-you-go phone but did not reveal his identity. Four year old Madeleine was abducted 36 days ago while on a family holiday in the portuguese resort of praia da luz. The McCanns were told of the potential breakthrough while in Berlin. They Delayed their planned flight to holland in the hope he would get in touch again. but effors to re-establish contact with the man failed and the couple decided to go on to Amsterdam for a press conference yesterday. Last night , they were thought to be on standby to return to britain just in case the caller contacts police again. One british Detective said: " The importance of this line of inquiry is still being assessed and attempts to re-establish contact are continuing" The McCanns have previosly said it might take only one phone call to get Madeleine back. They plan to fly to Morocco tommorow to continue their search.
