Do you give your kids the freedom to experiment and learn valuable life lessons for themselves? Or, do you sheild them from disappointments and upset, by warning them of consequences beforehand.

When there young all you wanna do is shield them from being disappointed and being hurt BUT when they get older into them teenage years all you can do is be open and honest with them about all aspects of life. Im going to let my daughter know what the consequences are and what the benefits are so she can look them over and decide what she wants to do (when shes older) LOL!

It depends. If the action is dangerous, or will result in a disappointment I really don't think they are ready for I will shield them. But most of the time I let them hacve freedom. Most of the time they suprise me! I think "Oh, he can't do that" but I let him have the freedom to try. And he'll do it! For me ita about trusting my kids and being a good example that I hope they will follow.
