Hi, when will expectant mothers start feeling their baby's movements.. Is it different for first pregnancy adn subsequent pregnancies.. Is it strange that even at 20th week, one is not able to distinguish any movements of the baby

I started feeling my little guy at about 4/5 months...after that it got worse. The harder he kicked the worse I felt. One thing to look for is the feeling of butterflies in your stomach. It's light at first, but it is probably the baby. After the butterflies, it will feel more like gas bubbles. Believe me, when the kicking gets harder, you'll know. Best of luck to you and your little one. If you have any other concerns, I am here and feel free to ask! =)

Thankyou for the response.. Yes I have felt the butterfly movements sometimes, but no stuff like the one we see in films.. My husband is also eager to know whether there are any movements.. Poor guy keeps on asking me if there is anything felt or not.. Seeing that, I really want him also to feel the movements of the baby..

Your hubby may not get to actually feel the baby move for quite a while - whenever my daughter was moving in there, my partner would put him hand on my belly & she'd stop!

I can sympathize with that. For the longest time my little guy wouldn't move for anyone but me. But on the bright side when I got bigger all I had to do was put my belly in the small of his back and eventually he got kicked! Don't worry too much about it...the more you worry the worse it is for the baby. Remember: everything you feel, they feel too. Please let me know how everything is going....I have kept you in my thoughts and prayers. Take care!

With my first son, I didn't feel him until about 20 weeks or later. With my second it was a little sooner than that. With this pregnancy I had first movements at 14 weeks. But it wasn't consistant until 16 weeks. From what I've heard and read, it comes sooner the more pregnancies you have.

Hi, yes I have also read this. For the first pregnancy, it will be difficult for the lady to identify the movements, but will be much easier with the subsequent pregnancies. Thankyou for the comment.

From what my sonographer told me, it's normal - it all depends on the size of the baby & how active they are, i had a largish baby so i could feel her a couple of weeks before my 19 week scan - then the bigger she got the more i felt it. She was squished in there by the time she was born so every time she moved, it was kinda painful sometimes. Maybe you just have a slightly smaller baby so don't be too concerned!

I think it takes a little longer to feel anything with your first pregnancy. Atleast that's how it was for me. My first pregnancy I didn't feel my son move until after 20 weeks. This pregnancy I started feeling my baby move at 16 weeks.

With a first time pregnancy because you don't know what you are looking for, most medical professionals agree that it's okay not to feel it up to the 22nd week. I have a friend who has an "insensitive" uterus who with both of ber pregnancies felt her children move just a handful of times. In general, movement is noticed any time after 14 weeks. Some women say that they feel it sooner with their second or third pregnancies but the baby is really too small to be certain that they are feeling it.

my husband didnt feel our baby move till i was about 7 months. i started feeling the baby move when i was about 5 1/2 months along. they say the more pregnancies you have the sooner you will feel the baby move, because you already know what to "feel" for.

Hi, I started to feel the baby's movements on the 18th week. It was very soft. It will get stronger as the pregnancy matures. Don't worry if you can not feel the baby's movement now, they will get stronger and can be identified easier.

No this is my fifth sucessful pregnancy and I am almost 24 weeks and don't feel regular movement yet and I told the OB at my last appt and they said that was okay still. I think this time around I felt him around 19-20 weeks? I think its okay though. Many factors are involved, like maternal weight (the more padded you are the less you can feel), how active you are (if you are really active you might not notice the baby moving) and other things. Hang in there!

Hello shan_ab! In my case when I got pregnant I was not able to feel the movement of the baby too during 20th week of pregnancy becoz she's too little. My baby moved when I was in my 25th week already. And it was really a strong move every morning. Maybe it depends on how big your baby in your stomach or how active she/he is. :)
