Idiots Driving On The Road

This morning as I was driving into work, I really got a case of road rage as I approached the traffic going toward the interstate. This road is 4 lanes and the right lane only merges to get on the interstate. The left lane is for those going straight. There are double white lines making it illegal to merge at the last minute and a cop usually sits there and passes out tickets frequently.
Well this morning the traffic is backed up, the light is green but I get behind this idiot who stops in the middle of the left lane about 1/2 mile from the redlight wanting someone to let her over into the right hand lane. Mind you she could have megered earlier without disrupting traffic -- but NO!! She had to stop traffic and all those in the left lane so she could merge over. This left lane stays backed up but the right one is usually free to go. She sat there for almost 5 minutes because traffic in that lane is stalled. Someone did let her over but it cost me and those behind me sitting through another red light.
Why are people so irresponsible, especially in morning drive time? Does this get to you too?

They are usually like this because people are often in a rush to get to work and they probably also woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I don't really go out early in the morning but when I do it does not happen to me very often.

It does get to me when anyone stops the flow of traffic b/c they screwed up. When I am driving, if I miss my turn or forget to get over in time, my rule of thumb is to pass my turn and come back. I would never hold up traffic just because I screwed up, yet there are lots of people out there who think it's everyone else's problem that they missed the turn!
I try to keep calm most the time, but when people are so inconsiderate, it does tick me off. I keep it to myself though, I'm not going to swear or give the person dirty looks. I just say GRRRRRRRR to myself.

In the small town where I live, we do not have so much of this kind of thing, but still we have people who do not seem to know how to drive. Most of the ones around here that really irritate me are the city drivers. Many are so accustomed to cutting through traffic that they do not seem to realize that if they just wait for one more car, they will have a half a mile of free space to cross the road, or maybe they are just in such a hurry to get nowhere fast that they just do not care. So instead, they zip across in front of you, nearly clipping your bumper in order to race across the street ahead of you.
I don’t blame you for being upset though. Too often people are not paying enough attention to these things and end up inconveniencing others as a result.

Yeah, most on the road are too busy on their cell phone to really pay attention to what they are doing. I always laugh when they make a point to go around you and then they end up right next to you at the next traffic light. And they think they are really getting somewhere quicker? If only they would realize they are putting themselves and especially others in danger with their dangerous driving!

I do get irritated with other drivers often. I live in a very small town where there is seldom if ever 'traffic backups' but other drivers can be rude and inconsiderate plus often down right dangerous.

You are so lucky to not have to deal with major traffic jams! I'm very jealous! It only seems to get worse here. They keep doing studies and talking about a loop around the city but I'm afraid if they even start in the next 5 years that it would take 10 to complete!

this is a "me" society. Everyone thinks only about themselves, especially during morning traffic. I have to get to work, i am running late, this traffic is nuts...in the end people like that don't think about others having to get to work, maybe they are late for work maybe they think traffic is nuts too, but the neglect to see that and they break laws, cause inconveniences to other drivers so they can move over into another lane, not look before a lane change, follow too closely so on and so forth. It gets to me so bad sometimes. I hate morning traffic and I hate having to drive a long commute. When I was working full time I had a job where my commute was close to an hour each way and everyday I had to fight tooth and nail to get there and back home safely. I have been pushed off the road because some idiot couldn't pass safely enough and tried anyway, I have had people honk at me, flash their brights at me because I wasn't driving fast enough for them (I was driving the speed limit mind you), tailgated and so on. Oh, yeah, I know exactly what you are talking about!

Common courtesy in drivers these days seems to be going by the wayside. I would like to think that the person just made a mistake, didn't understand the way the lanes worked, and then was panicking to get in the correct lane but it could also be that she simply felt she had the right to move over whenever she wanted. Sometimes other drivers simply won't let someone in though, and I think that is rude also. Driving needs to be cooperative for everyone to be as safe as possible on the roads, but there are those people that think they are above everyone else.
