Am I thick, blind or what? The other day I walked into Tesco's and bought myself some balsamic vinegar because I make a really nice salad with fresh basil, tomatoes, red onions and Mozzarella..I go home and though the bill for my shopping was a bit steep. So I looked at the receipt and saw that the balsamic vinegar was 11.99 sterling..Oh my days, I went back to Tesco's and told them that I had been over charged..I thought it was 1.99..To my horror it WAS 11.99!!!!!! No wonder my Sister kept complimenting me on such a lovely salad!!! Well it was the most expensive salad she is ever going to have lol.. Have you been a plank lately and why?

If something like this happens to me, I will likely find out at the counter. I will just be honest and said I don't want it now. It might be a bit embarrassing but if it is out of my budget, it is out of my budget. I am not going to eat grass for a week just so that I can buy that bottle of vinegar. And I feel that 12 pounds is simply crazy. We have a nice meal at the restaurant for that amount already. Sure bet that salad tasted great. :P

Not at the moment. Im very keen at price tags. I guess I have a built in calculator in my mind LOL I'll start computing while shopping and when I arrived at the counter I would know the price that I would pay. I love eating salad with balsamic vinegar with olive oil... yummy!

The only plankish thing I've done lately was to stupidly leave my mobile phone in my bag in the gym whilst I went and did my training, I was a plank for trusting people, well I've learnt my lesson, I don't trust anyone! It's terrible, and I hate being like that but no one makes a mug out of me twice!

Oh, lucky you LOL! Did you have the feeling you are tasting gold when you did eat the salad? Today 1 GBP is 23 EEK, so the bottle would be about 275,77 in my currency... A very solid price, indeed. There I could buy a pair of quite decent shoes for it! Luckily nothing like that has happened to me, and hopefully never will! I'm very careful with prices.

Dear Yan, no need to feel yourself like an idiot, it was an accident. I've acted sometimes much more idiotic, and have bought luxury items couple of times when I really couldn't afford it, and was fully aware of what I'm doing. That's what I call idiotic behaviour LOL!

My goodness, Yan. I think I need to pass on some of my special carrots to you. It will helps brighten your eyes, LOL. I am the one managing the budget here. I'm real careful with every single items I'm buying. For most of the ordinary grocery stuff, I have an idea how much each items will cost. When I take a trip to my favorite health store, I always check each one properly. This store is selling all kind of organic products and the prices is higher than the regular one. Its a good thing I was never a plank yet.

Yes I have done that very same thing. See one price then find out it is higher than I thought. I usually just go ajead and use it bacause it is such a hassel taking it back since I have to depend on others to get any place.

yanji, you made me laugh after a long while. well these are spices of life and when we reme, ber back it makes us laugh. i remember once someone had asked for donation in my hospital for some charity work. i saw the bill book, it was printed Rs. 5, which very cheap and i readily said okay and agreed to cut two such slips - that came to 10 rupees. now , when i puled out a 10 rupee note from my wallet the person infront was blank ans was not taking it. i saw the bill and to my utter surprise i realised that it was of 50 each and two slips made 100!!! i missed the 0!! how could i!! that was an utter embarrassment for me. i still laugh at that..

OMG!! 11.99 for Balsamic Vinegar?? Did you buy it in Bulk or something?? LOL. I can't say that I've been as bad as that, though once my partner and I went shopping, and we needed some Parmesan cheese. Rather than buy the little tubs, we thought buying it in bulk would be cheaper. We got about a quarter of a bag and figured that would be enough. When we got to the checkout though, that quarter of a bag cost us $22! It was decided right there and then that in future, we'll buy the little tubs LOL.

I have spent that much on a single ingredient however I am aware of the cost of something when I buy it. If I decide that I want to spend that much on a food item and can afford to do so at the time then I do. Always remember to look at prices before buying.

Wow. I bet that truly was a delicious salad! My husband tells me all the time that I should keep a round figure in my head of what the bill should be so that I would know about a difference like that. He would have caught it at the register. Like you, I would have had no idea until I got home (and maybe not even then).

It happend to me once and I was suprised that the bill of my grocery is almost over of $10 but when I looked at my goods it's only a noodles and some snacks. Then I double check my goods again I was confused why does it happened . And I go back to the cashier why does it happened, the one imported noodles I brought is I thought it was half the prize off coz there is on the mark on sale. And they say the sale is over and the original cost is back.

i once thought a parker pen which i thought was only worth a hundred pesos, since the other pens were priced like it too. this one was all silver though, while the previous parker pens that i bought had a plastic bottom. anyway it was only at the cashier that i realized that the pen was worth almost 300; i was so embarrassed to have to return it so i ended up buying the pen, even though i thought that it was ridiculously expensive!

Oh, crap. That is a huge misread. I have done that when I shop as well. I think alot of it has to do the way things are priced. I have noticed some stores have prices in the register but the sale prices are displayed on the floor are not the same prices. I am not sure if it is a mess up or the stores way of getting one over on the customer. So I make sure I know all my prices before I get to the register. So I check as something is being rang up.

You are not alone, my husband bought two little cast iron salt and pepper shakers, when we got home, I went through the bill and saw he paid a R100.00 rand each! I don't know how much that is in British Pound, but in ZAR it is a helluva lot, he thought it was R10.00 each, and to put the cherry on top they were sealed units, we couldn't put salt, or pepper in them! Now they just hang in the kitchen as ornaments! Are you feeling better! lol!

LOL yanjiaren don't feel too bad. I did something like that a few times too. Sometimes we're thinking about so many other things at the same time and we end up not paying complete attention to what we're doing. Plus you enjoyed a great salad, you didn't loose everything hehe By the way I really like the new colors in your profile page - maybe they're not that new but I hadn't been there for a bit and just peaked now. It looks great :)
