Graduation Leis

It's been years and years since I graduated high school. Tomorrow is my daughter's graduation and I have an orchid lei being delivered for her. Here is my question, short, but I can't find the answer anywhere: Does she receive the lei prior to graduation, so that she can wear it up on stage while accepting her diploma, or do I place it over her head after she graduates??? I think it's prior to, but I don't know and I have googled, asked people, etc., and no one seems to know. HELP! and THANKS!
