How Could a "American Union" Help the United States or Canada?

An American union of Canada, USA, Mexico, and Central America would be to benefit the super rich of those respective countries. It is about consolidating control and achieving more power. It is that simple.
Eventually, the different larger regions of the world will form regional governments, but this should be allowed to occur naturally. It should not be forced.

Security wise, smaller landmass border with other land based political entities.
Cheap manual labor that would actually contribute to the tax base. (Because I would put in all three NAFTA nations, Mexico would be included)

Comming from outside North America, I always thought that Canda and the USA were practically one country, with the exception of the drinking age in the USA being 21 and 19 in Canada. Yes, the currency is different too but looking at some border outpost such as the Victoria-Port Angeles Ferry terminal between British Columbia and Washington State, its hard to tell the difference.
I suppose closer union, which was supposed to happen with NAFTA, was supposed to make USA and Canda even closser and in a way, I suppose they are as close to each other as you can get. How much closer can they get, unless the conspiracy theorist amongst us decide that the way to go is for Canada to become the 51st State and Mexico to become the 52nd - I mean the USA really is the dominant force in that part of the world - its so overwhelmingly dominant unlike the EU where memeber states of more or less of a similar size.
But then what fun would it be. HOw would the world's favourite draft doddger, for example, make his name in history if Mexicans were not crossing the border illegally - so he could cut a deal - fight in Iraq and get citizenship. Or where would other US Army draft doddgers go unless Canda offered them a saner environment from time to time. Things seem fine the way they are.
