Accepting new friends

I accepted a new friend today. I routinely accept new friend requests and have never turned anyone down. I've been disappointed 2 or 3 times when I get a spam message from them shortly thereafter. I'm their friend and they want to share this or that great site. Ugh. Usually I just ignore the message and delete. Since this person is pretty new to MyLot I was nice and messaged back saying that wasn't sharing, that was considered spamming and please don't do again. What do you do?

When that happens, I will usually just delete them right away. Personally, I am not here on myLot for spam messages or constant referral barrages, so I usually just let them go. If it happens once, it could happen again. You are a lot nicer than I am, actually sending a message. I will just delete them, pure and simple.

Yes, I wondered if I was being too nice, but because it was someone new I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Just deleting them is an option too.

Well, there's no harm in being nice. Better that than being nasty, antagonizing the other person and then having them give you a negative rating. (I gave you a positive rating, btw.)

I've just recently given my friends list a an overhaul. I don't mind people sharing great sites with me so long as they are relevant. Usually the friends that I have on my list will know what I'm on interested in through my discussion topics and answers. I always make a point to post a reply to my friends discussions and one thing that after a while started to greatly annoy me were people adding me as a friend asking why I hadnt responded to all of their topics when they hadnt replied to not one of my own or at least interacted wtih me in some way. Even to just say hello. So now here is what I do. I add them, if after awhile they don't seem interested in what Im posting then there doesn't seem a point to keep them on my list. I want friends who I can interact with and they with me. Hope that all made sense lol.

I agree with you to a point. Suppose you start discussions that they don't feel that they have anything relevant to add? Or maybe they overextended themselves and have over 100 "friends" here on mylot and just can't seem to get everyone caught up? Or maybe they have a job outside of mylot? Or children vying for their attention? Do you do that in your "real" life?

If it's a site I've never heard of but looks like I can earn from I just sign up, not through the affiliate link, but the actual web address, all other spam gets trashed as I have no time for it!! Plus if they spam you then they are not very considerate!

That's only happened to me once, and it was religious spam, so I wrote back and told the person that I will not convert to their religion, thanks anyway, but what is between me and God is no one else's business. Other than that, I've received no spam...lucky really. I've been here since November, lol.

This is only happened to me twice in three months...thank goodnes...because I find it very irritating as well....the last time being yesterday...I accepted a fairly new member...I always try to be supportive of new members..it has not been that long since I joined...but within 10 minutes...I received nothing but a thank you for adding me and a link to another pay site...of which I have NO interest...I chose to ignore it...but in the future I may follow you in leaving a short message about spam and no desire to receive it... Thanks my friend, good topic..

Well, if I don't like the Spam, of course I tell the person who sent me! After all, they are my friends, aren't they? At least, they are supposed to be. So it's ok to tell them: "Well, I didn't like your message telling me about your website. For me, it's spam. Could you please stop sending me that?" I just do that.

This was the first time I'd ever messaged back saying "Please don't do that again" so it's interesting to know someone else does it too.

I was talking about accepting new friends on MyLot, but yes, I think you should accept new friends when you move somewhere too. I hope you like your new home and new friends!

Give it time, you'll get more friends requests as you spend more time on here. Don't be afraid to request someone to be your friend too?
