I blooming hate these things. Sometimes its numbers and sometimes its letters but I have real problems reading them. I have a good computer monitor, I'm short sighted but the computer is not much distance away. Sometimes I really struggle to log into certain sites where it asked of me. Taxback.com use it, ticketmaster.com use it, msn occasionally and there is some sites I have forgotten about all together cos I rarely got to access them. SOme of them have audio for the blind or something but I don't always have my speakers set up as I am in the lounge. Does anyone have this problem, do you think we should all just boycott them and protest and get rid of them. I know they have their purpose of recording your ISP number or something like that but I would far rather someone ahcked me than I had to type in these daft numbers everytime!!!

God i hate those things. i would rather have someone stick pins under my finger nails than have to fill those stupid things out. Like you their are times i strain to read them. Even if i switch numbers its still hard to read sometimes. Some forms you fill out all the way you do the box of numbers and its not right. So then you have to go back and fill out all the info al over again. i usually just give up at that point lo.

LOL - I hate them too Claire! I have a problem with my eyes and because of the twisted, curly shapes of some of the letters and numbers I can never read them properly, and never get them right first time. Ebay uses them if you are needing to send any messages to people via eBay, and they drive me crazy. I think boycotting them is a great idea!

Oh I hate them too because some of them I can hardly read. It's true I'm as blind as a bat without my glasses on but even when I'm wearing them (which I almost always am when I'm on the pc) I can hardly see the numbers. The worst are the ones with the squiggles in the background - I usually just give up with those ones. Actually I think they do it to stop spamming, etc. It's to make sure that it's a real person accessing the site and not some automated software. I suppose there are good reasons for having it but I just wish they made them easier to read.

"Turning numbers" are annoying but they are necessary sometimes, their main purpose is to stop automation; some hackers design little scripts that tries to break in your account by random passwords so it's really important in e-currencies and similar sites. I agree that some sites use very hard to read letters and numbers but other sites are OK, you can usually get them with one try or two :)

I agree with you. I think alot of people are tired of them. There are many times I get them wrong because its hard to tell if they are lower case or upper case. It is very aggravating, but there is a purpose behind them. They are in place to make sure it is a real person wanting access and not a computer programm for spamming. I really think they should find a better way, because they are very frustrating.

I have the same problem I cannot read the numbers and letters well as there are so meny linse in them and to try and figure if it is a capital or small letter is not that easy either. They use that method to help keep a lot of people that would copy and past the hidden letters and numbers from getting in. It sometimes takes me three or mer tries to get the right combo.

I really dislike them as well, I understsnd that the object of having them is to prove that its a human that is trying to log on and not a robot, as there are some programmes that can go through thousands of passwords in a second, so that if they know your user name they can then get your password. Some of the numbers (and letters) are quite readable but others (including E-gold) have got lines going through them as well which means that what is displayed can be quite confusing. You may not want these numbers, but I bet you would not be pleased if your bank account was emptied by not using these numbers. It does help if you can listen to them as I've had to do a few times, although sometimes the accent is difficult to understand as well.

The main idea of having this is to prevent having a load of bots all over the website.
