Great idea, start reading as soon as possible. I actually started even sooner than that. Don't laugh, but I use to read to my wife's belly when she was pregnant with my now 4yr old son, as I heard that kids can hear things while in the womb, and can get use to the tone of your voice. I also started reading to my son as soon as he was able to focus really well, and he loved the colourful pictures. He is very bright, and I believe that reading to him from a young age has had a positive effect.

Reading to a very young child (birth to 6 months of age) is about conditioning the baby to being read to. The more often a baby is read to, the more familiar it becomes, and the more of a favorite activity it becomes. Early reading time is about having fun ,bonding and providing the secure and loving environment babies need for healthy emotional development. Of course, early reading time is also about conveying information as well. There are all sorts of ways that a baby can understand without knowing what the words actually mean. A baby can see images and pictures, can hear your tone of voice, can see the expressions on your face, and can understand your body "language." And just as important is the fact that babies simply love to hear the voices of the two most important people in their lives -- Mom & Dad. There isn't a "magic age" for when to start reading together, if you are interested in your children learning to read as soon as possible, the rule of thumb is the younger the better.

I started reading to my baby when she's 10 month. Now, she like to look at the book and also like books. :)

I love this. It is defintely never too early to read to your children. Even if they dont understand the words, pictures will stimulate their developing minds, not to mention they will become more comfortable with sleeping because they hear their parents voice :)

WEll, they say that the earlier you start reading to them the better. I believe my parents started early with me and I love to read now. I was at a pretty high reading level when I was younger, still am. Continue reading to them and you'll have a brilliant little book smart child.

They may not comprehend it yet, but definately don't give up on it. I can't remember how old I was when my folks started reading to me, but I can tell you that they persisted in having me reading at least some things in the lil golden books by age three. It gave me a love of reading and has served me well over the years.

I began reading to my kids while they were in-utero. My oldest was about 6 months along and I would read the same story every night - The Tale of Peter Rabbit. She would kick and move alot and get excited during parts of the story. After she was born, she still loved that story - and I would read to her while I was expecting my second child as well. My children are all readers - they love to read or be read to, and they love when I make up stories to tell them. It's never too early to begin reading to your child - always add "character" to your voice as you read to make the story more exciting. My kids always love that. :)
