Do you, or would you give a homeless person money?

Would you give a homeless person a handout? If you do, do you ever wonder whether the money is actually used for food/shelter/clothing? Do you help out the homeless or less fortunate in other ways? I feel somewhat guilty and stereotypical for saying it, but I think the worst in people and do not give cash to homeless because I wonder if they are just going to go buy alcohol or cigarettes or drugs.
