Easy way to get rid of unwanted cars

I've seen advertisements online for charities that accept junk cars as donations. Are they for real?
Next time we decide to purchase a new car, I may consider the option of donating our old car to charity and getting a tax-write off. Ordinarily we only get a few hundred dollars trade-in value on our cars, so these types of charities might be a better alternative.
Have you ever donated a car to charity? Did you get a good tax write-off for your deduction?

Several years ago my husband donated one of our cars to a charity and got a 'hefty' tax deduction that we put toward getting another car. I can't remember what charity it was but I think hubby will and I'll let you know. I believe it had the word, 'Car' in the charity's name. I'll see if I can find out for you tomorrow and send you an im or comment.
