My heart stopped today!!!!

It is amazing how things can change so drastically in a matter of seconds. Today was one of them. When I first got up things seemed to be normal. Kids fighting while I am trying to drink my coffee and wake up. But it wasn't long before my house was full of panic! My 4 year old son who is not potty trained had a bad accident today. I was standing in the kitchen when my daughter yelled out the my son had poopies. So I called him over to me and met him halfway in the dinning room. I asked him to turn around so I could check. Well sure enough he had pooped his pants. So I told him to go to the laundry room, which is wear I normally change him at. But before I could say anything he took off running and just as I was turning around, I saw my son hit his head on the corner of the kitchen counter and his legs go flying up in the air. He hit so hard it sent him flying in the air. I swear at that moment my heart stopped. He started screaming and I ran over to him as he had his face turned to the floor and I had to wrestle to get him to turn over and remove his hand from his head. As I pulled his hand away, I saw my worst fear. Blood was all over his hand and forehead. The whole time this happened my 10 year old stepson happened to be sitting at the table using the computer and saw the whole thing. I started to panic, but did manage to get a wet washcloth for his head. I then moved him to the living room saying to my self between tears "I don't know what to do". Now my kids have had accidents but never this severe. I was so thankful my stepson was here because he calmly said "mom call the doctor". So I did and between tears I managed to tell the nurse what had happend. She told me to bring him in and they would take a look at it. Once off the phone I managed to get my three kids and myself loaded up and the house locked. We got to the doctors office and they immediately took him back. The nurse looked at it and said he would be fine and the doctor would be right in. Well the doctor came in and examined him. To my relief all it was, was a severe cut that liquid stitches could fix. He had no head trauma, no concussion, and no internal injuries. The sad part tho is he will forever have a scar on his forehead. Not the best way to start out the week, but I am very thankful that my son will be fine. Needless to say the rest of the day he would not go near that corner!

OH my gosh. I am glad he is okay. My goodness my heart would have stopped too. How scary!! I thankfully have only had one VERY scary experience with a child in my life. I watch kids in my home, but don't have any of my own. Well this little girl we were watching was sitting in the chair and thankfully my husband was home too. All of the sudden she started to make a gag sound like she was going to throw up. WEll I come out of the bathroom I was cleaning and I am like she is turning blue...she can't breath. Jason (my husband) jumps up and grabs her and gets her into the bathroom cause it still sounds like she is going to throw up. Jason gets her to where she can breath again and a few minutes later she was perfectly fine. I had called 911 and when they got there she was fine. They took her in anyway and could find nothing wrong with her. She had a few of those in the next year...they figured they were seziures caused in that age group (two to three). It was freaking scary though. She did it one other time with just me.

Yeah I have heard of these before. I imagine they could be quite scary. When my son was younger when he would cry he would hold his breath and pass out. The doctor told me it was normal and as long as he was not in any danger of hurting him self when he fell not to worry about it. He has since grew out of that stage thank god!

Having boys myself, I know how you felt. I can't count how many times I have had to take them in for stitches. I'm glad your son will be ok. Don't worry about the scar. As he gets older he'll probably love to hear the story (without the poopy pants of course...LOL).

Thank you so much for your comments. You put a smile on my face with the poopy pants part. I don't imagine he will want to be reminded of that, seeing how he is having a very hard time potty training.

Well I am glad he is okay and I know how you feel my son used to get hurt all the time and after the second time I stayed calm. My 7 yr old was outside playing in our yarn and feel and hurt his chin to the meat and he had liquid sealer also but he has a small scar under his chin, god bless.

I don't think I have ever cried so hard in my life the way I cried today seeing my son hurt so bad. I am actually on the verge of tears now just thinking of what happend. But he was a very strong trooper in the doctors office. He sat perfectly still while the doctor put the liquid sealer on. I was proud of him.

Oh no-- that is scary- I'm super glad that he is ok- Boys have scars-- I bet he will have lots more by the time he is 10. : ) his knees etc. It's funny how we mothers react or don't react in times like this- Had this been someone else's child- and you saw it you probably would have said call the doctor- lol.. but all you could see is your hurt child- I'm glad the doctor said no problems- keep him away from the counter.. I hope your week gets better!

It is amazing just how quickly things can happen...I am so glad that your son will be alright...I am sure that you were terrified....it is also, interesting how some of the choldren around during these kinds of things can remain calm and clear-headed.... There is a product manufactured especially for helping scars to fade...it is now available for children too...I can not remember the name of it, I am sorry....as at Walmart.... Liquid stitches are so wonderful for a child...so less painful and scary than the ones that were available when I was a child....nor when my grown children were small... I am sorry, my friend...I am glad that it all turned out for your son.....take care..

Yes, it is amazing how things change so quickly. I still cant believe lil man got cut like that. Its crazy. At least he didnt need stitches and only needed the liquid stuff, its less tramatic on little ones. Its awesome that your stepson was calm, its always great when you have someone calm to help you figure out what to do. You could have called me!!!!
