Gas Prices

Over the weekend the price of gas went below $3 again where I live. You would think that it went back to $1 with the way people are so glad it is that low. The price per barrell is at the same it was when the price of gas was below $2, so why is it so high now. When it went so high people forget about the lower price and are just happy to have it back at where it was recently and forget how much it was at before. Wake up people. It's time for us to do more then complain. Find a more fuel efficient car, let them know we want the 50+ mile per gallon rate of Europe. They can do it but they don't want to because then they can't make the money they would normally make. Let your congressman and senator know in the US that we are tired of the way they let this happen. Let them know that if they don't start working for us, they will be replaced.

Here in BC we're paying $1.10 a LITER! This is a huge drop from the $1.30 per liter they wanted us to pay over the Victoria Day weekend. Right now, we too are holding out breaths to see how low it will drop. Right now, BC is talking about following the example of Washington State and starting an investigation into why our Gas prices are so ridiculously high. Here in BC, we're paying the highest gas prices in Canada. Our Prime Minister has already said he won't do anything to drop the Gas Prices - not that he COULD do much anyway.

Thanks for the info, I travel through Virginia 4 times a year in trips to pick up and take my kids home. Petersburg is about half way. I have found 3 stations along the way that always seem to have lower prices then most of the rest. One is a Pilot station (and the surrounding truck stops) off of I-95. the others are when I first come into Virginia from Maryland and where I meet my ex in Petersburg. So I plan my gas purchases accordingly.

Very perceptive, Brothertuck! A frequent tactic that can only deceive and has often deceived the less perceptives! The rollercoasting of gas price is in fact a psychological game. Just as you, too, have noticed, when ever the skyrocketed price goes down, even 2 or 3 cents, the deceived public rejoices; although nothing has actually changed, seeing the gas price is still way too high while the price per barrel remains the same or is falling.

You are so right. The price will rise like $1 at the first place and then it will be reduced may be by 30 or 40 cent and people will be happy with that price. But they forget about original price. We all should protest against this price hike and should also try to use public transport and fuel efficient car to save energy and money.

Here in the UK, we have a lot of very fuel-efficient cars, but the price of fuel is through the roof. I'm talking near £4 a gallon converted into dollars I think that is near $8. My car averages around 40 miles per gallon. Small 50 miles per gallon cars, are OK running around cities, but are not very comfortable to go on a long drive as their small engines need smaller bodies that tend to radiate every bump in the road. Mine is a 2 litre Ford :-)

Very good points about how we should complain and write our senators. The reasons the gas prices are so high is because we don't have enough, or advanced oil refineries to process the the barrels of oil we receive. Most of our refineries are very, very old and often split the job of processing oil for gas and natural gas for warmth during the winter months. There is of course always the speculation of Hurricane season impeding or damaging the refineries as well. Regardless, the prices that are being for gas should be criminal. Oil companies are showing record profits in the multi billions, by sticking it to us... the little guy. Minnie Mouse is HOT! filmbuff

SEAT Ibiza - My car is big enough.
You are a smartie. Yes our European cars are more fuel efficient. We pay way more for gas than you do. I pay about 8 dollars for a gallon of gas. It is not only that they sheiks demand so much but gasoline is highly taxed, a main source of income for the government. So, last year I bought a new car. You know that everything is smaller in Europe. The burger, the coke, the houses and the cars. I bought a SEAT Ibiza from Volkswagon, a reasonable car, it is like a sportish Golf. It is spacious inside. It can seat up to five people and I can fold the back seat to turn it into a wagon. The consumption is very reasonable. Frankly, I do not believe that the average American family really needs a SUV.

Wow $3.00 at this point would be great for us here on Saipan! The gas prices here are up to $4.49 cents a gallon! Thank God we live on a small island where 1 gallon would get you around the island and back!...lol....On a serious note: We have tried to complain many times before, but have yet to recieve any response.....We have also gone on strike with the gas companies and refused to put fuel in our cars for three days, but nothing has panned out for us here. The fact is no matter how expensive it gets we will still have no choice but to accept it, because having a vehicle plays a HUGE role in our lives.
