Cats fight over food!

My two cats, Big Man and EB, are around the same age, but the younger one bullies the older male cat and won't let him eat any food. She demands to be fed alone, and won't share. Even if she's not hungry, she won't let him eat. Yesterday, he got fed up with her attitude and took a swipe at her head with his paw. This is the first time he's done anything like that and it's worrisome. I don't want my cats to get in the habit of expressing themselves with anger over something so simple as food. What can I do? How do you keep your cats from fighting over food.

My place is a dumping ground for unwanted cats. Last week a cat family was dumped at my front door when I woke up in the morning. The mummy cat and 4 of her kittens were making loud noises that woke me up. I have no choice but to cook extra food for them. Now I have 9 cats in my family. So cooking extra doesn't make them fight over food.

Try feeding them in separate bowls? He can have his and she can have hers. I think that's the easiest, quickest way to put an end to it. I have some cats that are fine with sharing, others will not share - period. When I'm feeding canned food, those 2 or 3 cats get their own little plate while I use one big plate with several small spoonfuls of food spread out on it for the others. Works very well and none of the cats fight over the canned food. I only have one bowl for the dry food. They all seem to do a good job of sharing it. If your two won't share the one bowl of dry food, put out two bowls of that one too. Hope this helps!
