How do you tell you Ex He is an Alcoholic....

My ex and I are still very close...and lately I've noticed he drinks entirely too much... at frist I thought it was a social thing... you know the conventional drinking at parties... then it got to the point where he was drinking after work, and now he doesn't need a reason to pop the bottle... but its not beer its the hard stuff like night train or gin, and 150... He holds his liqour very well but he is an alcoholic.. and I don't know how to tell him I think he needs help. now that he has a little boy I fear he wont be around long enough to see him grow up.. and that scares me.. I know most of you are going to say just tell him but its not that simple when your dealing with a person who thinks they don't have a drinking problem... whats the best way to approach him without pushing him away...
