i'm a tv person, although i do watch the occasional VCD or DVD, most of which are pirated ones from China. these usually have scratches on them, and some skip and do other weird stuff while playing. so do all this irregular CD or DVD activity taking a toll on our players?

I cant6 really answer your question, but id like to suggest an alternative. I buy my DVDs used, the place I go is a small store that specializes in DVDs and video games and only sell the real thing. Ifyou buy a DVD more than 2 or 3 months old, its only 4 dollars plus tax. if its a new release its 8 dollars plus tax, although price can vary, (ive seen this myself in local shops) i dont htink more than a few dollars. in fact sometimes these places are cheaper than pirated DVDs. Give it a shot

that would be nice, if we had that in the philippines haha! anyway the alternative here is buy a pirated player and play the fakes ones in those, and reserve the real thing for real players. pretty ingenious huh? :)

yeah we have a cheap pirated player too! but sometimes even the cheap ones get a little picky sometimes and wont play the pirated DVDs...so we have to use the more expensive ones.;(

Pirated CD's and DVD's can really do harm to your hi-fi system . I buy up only genuine ones because I cannot afford any harm to my precious electronic equipments .

Well so far for me, the bootleg dvds haven't hurt any of my dvd players! Like you, the dvd's I receive aren't always the best quality but I expect that only paying $5 bucks for a movie!

well i think they wont damage ur drive(s)/players...since these dvd/cd's are not in direct contact with the lens, they just rotate on the spindle... but to be on the safer side, i would suggest not to use pirated dics...try downloading movies from the internet, if u dont hv any other alternative. :)
