Hello everyone. I hope everyone is doing good with their weigh loss program. I, unfortunately have not been. I must share with you that, I recently found out that my dad might have cancer. He went to the doctor for some stomach pains, vomitting, etc. and he was sent to a stomach specialist. They found a tumor and today at 11:40 my parents will find out the test results of that tumor. We should know exactly what we are up agains. I don't want to say that this is my excuse for eating, but I have been more concerned with my dad's health and so I'm not really focusing on eating the proper portions. I just hope everything comes out okay because I just don't know what I will do if it doesn't. I still plan to lose weight and participate in this competition, so I'm still your competition, and once things settle down with my dad, I'll be kicking butt with our weigh-ins. So good luck to everyone out there. I will let you know what happens with the test results in tomorrow's disussion, but until then I ask that you please keep him in your prayers, because even if it is cancer, he's going to fight this thing with everything and everyone he has. Good luck with your weight loss. I hope to see high losses on Friday!!

I'm very sorry to hear about your dad. You and your family will be in my thoughts. Life can give us some detours as we journey to a healthier version of ourselves. Do the best that you can while keeping your family as your priority. As a new member of the competition I'd like to tell you a little about my journey thus far. I've been using Sparkpeople.com since mid October and have lost 30 lbs thus far with another 20 to my goal. Since I have not been treating this as a diet but rather a lifestyle change I have been slow to lose but I'm sure it will stay off. A few of the things that I've done that have made this easier is to make sure to get my water (at least 8 cups), always eat breakfast (usually oatmeal with many additions to be assured of at least 25 g of fiber daily) and being active at least 5 days/week. These along with getting 5 fruits and veggies each day has helped me to keep at this and know that is it something that I can continue. What I'd like to get better at is my daily stretching and as I monitor my level of nutrients (this is part of what is available through SP) I'm finding there are some that I find I am not getting near enough. I'd like to become more aware of getting enough Calcium, Vit D, Iron and Magnesium as I am currently getting about 50% of the recommended amounts. I'm looking forward to getting to know the participates more with each day and wish you all the best on your journey to a healthier you.

Thank you for keeping my family in your thoughts. Unfortunately we didn't receive the news we wanted to, and he has Cancer. It will be a rough road ahead but I'm sure we will get through it. I'd like to say congratulations on your weight loss up to day, that is awesome. It sounds like you definitely have your act together when it comes to the proper nutrition and stuff like that. Way to go!! Keep up the great work and I'm sure you will lose those remaining 20 pounds before you know it!
