Are you sleeping safe?

Today I realized that it's been over a year since I changed our smoke detector batteries. Needless, to say, I'm kind of worried and relieved at the same time. Strange scenarios keep running through my mind. What if there had been a fire? And, I was wondering, am I the only one who forgets to do important stuff like changing batteries? This is an important thing. You'd think I would remember it. Have you changed your smoke alarm batteries lately? How often are you supposed to change them?
