I stared when I was 15 or 16. Sometimes I still do. Try timing yourself or cut back on them some. I have did this or just buy a pack at a time. I started doing this so I don't smoke as much as I use to.I need to quit myself but I understand it's not easy.

I've smoked before. Usually it was only social smoking or done as a stress relief. It's been a while since I smoked. The only time I smoke now is if I get really wasted (which doesn't happen often at all) or if I get super stressed out. Do you want to quit smoking? Sometimes if you do not REALLY want to quit, it makes it harder to quit. I know some people say that chewing gum or having candies in your mouth helps! Good luck!

I smoked for about 11 years. I have recently quit, like about 1.5 months ago. I don't think I have ever quit smoking before. I would take breaks, but never quit. And when I was taking breaks, I would call it taking a break, not quitting. This time I have called it quitting, and it IS quitting. It has been a little hard, especially when I go to parties and I see other people smoking and then I want to smoke a little bit or if I am drinking or outside having coffee, i would think I want to smoke sort of. However, when I made the decision to quit, I was really motivated. Smoking was seriously starting to take its toll on my throat and skin and it was just not cute. I knew I had to stop, and so I did. Things that were helpful to me were giving myself new habits in the morning and when I come home from work, as these were the usual times I would smoke during my day-to-day life. In the morning now instead of smoking, I take a walk. When I come home from work instead of smoking, I play with the dog. As for going out, I know that I will be tempted when I go out, I just know that from the beginning, but I remind myself why I quit and how determined I am to quit and then I just resist the desire to smoke while I am out.

I've never tried it. I might have been asked a couple times in high school but I've declined. I just didn't want to. It does come down to really wanting to quit is one factor. I've known people who have smoked and I get told the same thing, "You don't want to start." I guess nicotine patches could help possibly but I'm not sure how well considering I've never been a smoker myself.

I Smoke in the past just for one month only and decided to stop and i still no smoking. To smoking depend on yourself. convence your self that smoking has no benefit and sure has a bad effect on your body and life. Be strong not to return for smoking.

I never ever tried smoking and don't want to do it in future also... I think you need to have strong will power and shouldn't think about as you get tempted when you do so.....Try to explain yourself the consequences and disaster it causes to life...All the best...

I wish I could give you some tips on quitting. I too am a smoker and have tried to quit on numerous occasions. Every now and then it seems like I can handle it and then something stressful in life will happen and I am right back at it again. Hey, but good luck with trying to quit.

Hi coolgeth! I haven't smoked in my entire life! Well, does one puff count? Literally, I only had a puff and I'm over it. Most of my friends though and I am proud to say I have not been influenced to smoke as a habit. I have a friend who only started smoking because of our other friends and now he's starting to quit slowly. Slowly. I wish he could stop though. And you also. My friends who totally stopped smoking told me it's only in the mind. So, you can really quit if you really really want to. Good luck!

The 1st time I tried it I was 14 yrs. old and that was basically to fit in with a few friends. Didn't last very long. When I turned 16 I took it up and haven't quit since. I do enjoy smoking and have no plans to quit.

Hmmm, this sounds like a trip to the guidance counselor lol I started smoking when I was in college. Right now I am not smoking though I "can" be a social smoker. I already consider the habit as out of my system for good but then you really can't avoid any instance when you feel you "have" to smoke, especially if you need to know other people ("social"). Personally, I don't think anyone "enjoys" smoking as it is only one way of relieving stress or hang-ups that someone is feeling from a negative experience. As for advice on how to quit, it's simple...try not to think about it :) If you get the urge to smoke grab something to stick in your mouth (candy, gum) to keep yourself busy. Then engage in some other activity to get your mind off things. Works for me. Hope this helps, coolgeth :)
