Have you ever made a promise that you could not keep?

Was it a promise to yourself? Was it a promise to others? Why couldn't you keep it? I have made many promises that I could not keep, unfortunetelly. My most recent promise was to myself, and I promised to quit smoking cigarettes. I unfortunetelly am breaking that promise right now, as I am smoking my cigarette. I vowed to quit, and I tried, but I couldn't. I am not so sure if I gave it my all though. I mean, if I REALLY tried, with nicotine patches or medication, I know I could accomplish my goal, but I really enjoy smoking. That is one promise that I have broken. I also have promised to call my mother, but when it comes down to it, I know my promise was only a lie. I have no interest in calling her. That is another promise I have broken. So, how about you? Have you ever made a promise, either to yourself, or someone else, that you could not keep?
